Re: Singleplayer Feedback

Hey Dnamro,

Great work as always! The AI has really come into it's own. I'm not sure what magic touch you have, but they're really on point now!

I'll keep editing this as I play, but I did notice on glaring bug:

- On Maps where the Scout Trooper model can use the E-11, their model gets put into the default position and glitches. This can be seen in First Person view also, as pulling out the E-11 shows a lot of camera glitches with the gun.

Feedback:
It's nice to be able to use the At-At again. What an amazing asset that never was able to see use. I forgot how awesome the animation and interiors were.

I'm not sure if I agree with all of the kit selections on the maps. I feel that the support class will be over-used on maps where the trooper class just has a sniper to use.

The Auto-Controlled E-webs are awesome! Nice touch!

Will the At-At be getting AI support?

Re: Singleplayer Feedback

So what is the recommendation on how to change the kits?

Once I get the bugs all worked out, I will look at limited AI support for the ATAT.   I would like to get them working with automatic movement, starting from further out and stop at the trenches, with bots using the weapons (like cap ships on Talloran) - or at least have bots using the weapons from the ATAT spawn locations.    A player controlled one could be in the back for coop.   The static ATATs are going away.

For the maps, I am thinking of adding icons to the preview pics that show the type of kits, which I have as close quarters, standard infantry, Heavy vehicle, and with or with snipers.

I plan to put together a BF2142 conversion mappack as a separate download option.  I will add the texture pack to the mod from GCX, but want to keep the core maps only those that are total conversions, without any 2142 stuff to keep the Star Wars atmosphere.

Thanks for the feedback guys

Re: Singleplayer Feedback

Currently the main problem are random crashes. If the map crashes a few secounds after the DEPLOYing into the map for the first time, then it is better in second try of the same map!? (Trying the same map again helps.)
Maybe, crashing is related with sound problems (Loading sound samples into memory OR pointers indexes to specific sound samples are wrong)?

My answers/feedback to your questions:
1) I like the different kits set ups. I like how you set up in different kits for 16,32,64 map levels.
2) The level of Bot's AI is OK. I don't feel that some maps (Carbone) are to liner. I don't agree to drop some maps because of bad AI. But I can agree to drop maps, which don't work at all if they can't be fixed.
3) IMO, adding icons is not only good idea but necessary! Also better and more correct GAME MODE descriptions at loading screen. (Some circulating ingame tips are obsolete or not correct any more.)
4) Yeah, I agree better not to mix bf2142 maps into current compilation (to keep the Star Wars atmosphere).

My questions:
1) Can we have parachute in some maps with flying vehicles & high buildings, hills (to jump down)?
2) What FSX abbreviation means? What are FSX maps?

Re: Singleplayer Feedback

Great feedback in the spreadsheet

1.  There are no parachutes in Star Wars.   But there is a pickup kit that can be added that includes the bounty hunter style jet pack.   Bots can't use them, but it would add some variety for players to get down from the mountain tops on the Carbone maps.   Good idea.

2.  FSX - First Strike eXtended mod.   It's a singleplayer First Strike mod that adds BF2142 conversion maps.   The FSX maps that I am including can be cleaned up to replace all the BF2142 objects.   Buy using the FSX_ prefix, I am indicating that the maps are not official First Strike maps and did not go through the same quality control and testing.

I was afraid that that Carbone maps would get boring because the gameplay would not flow and get stuck in the middle of the mountain pass.   The singleplayer maps work better when there are multiple paths to the flags, which keeps the action going.   I only want to include maps that can be easily fixed up.  My time is limited to work on First Strike and I my time could be better spend expanding and fixing up the singleplayer on the existing maps.   There are still FS maps that don't have singleplayer yet.

Maybe adding some stairs/bridges to the back of the mountain would help.

Re: Singleplayer Feedback

I updated the kits, and sent the very small update file in an email to the testers.  This should fix a lot of the stability issues.   I also found an issue with Null Sensor station that I will fix for the next release.

Re: Singleplayer Feedback

Thanks to all the bug reports and feedback, I was able to track down and fix many of the stability problems.    Once, I get the stability issues resolved, I can release a public version, then get back to adding/improving AI to more maps.    Navmeshes that are what allows the bots to navigate around a map.   Most of the navmeshes for the maps were created before I learned how to create AImeshes for the objects.   Aimeshes are needed so that bots can use the object.   The biggest problem with current navmeshes is seen on Endor clearing with bots running into trees.   This is because the map was updated with trees moved around and the navmesh was never updated to match.   I had to create AImeshes for the new trees that were added, which are done now, but I still need to finish the AImesh for the crashed cap ship and include the Ewok water village.   The tatooine maps all need new navmeshes because I have AImeshes created now so the bots can go into the space docks and buildings.   Jundland Wastes is the only map that was set up with the new AImeshes, and you can see bots going into most buildings and using narrow alleys that they could not use on the Tattoine maps.  But I plan on updating that too, so that bots can go into the Cantina.

So, yes, I plan on adding AI support to all the First Strike maps and expanding or redoing the AI support in existing maps.
