very cool but your ideas spell in bold lettere LAG  I bet my computer could handle it but it's gonna be quite a processor juicer

Rain was no problem in BF1942 - some individuals coded it and then it was included in the Forgotten Hope mod on a map or two.  It's particle-based, so it would only really be useful in a totally outdoor map as the rain would fall through buildings, but it was lag free.

Lightning would be much harder to pull off, sort of a randomly-spawning effect that would appear every few minutes with some nice dynamic lighting attached to it.

Re: Dark, damp rainy map?

THEre was a desert combat map that had snow and lightning

Re: Dark, damp rainy map?

Explosions and muzzle flashes splash light onto nearby objects in BF:2, correct?  If so, we could do what Canadiens said and make the lightning into a randomly spawning, extremely large muzzle flash effect.  It could brighten the entire map for several fractions of a second.  The thunder would be easy to code after that, just attach a very very loud thundercrash sound to the lightning effect.  The lightning effect could be placed in several spots very far from the center of the map (think outside the boundaries), and it could go off every 10-50 seconds.  Making the sky and terrain dark is the easiest part.  As for the rain, someone should definately look into that.

Yes, and you guyas also have to remember that the lightning always flashes atleast a second befor the thunder goes (because light is faster than sound obviously). And there can be thunder without lightning.

small thunder rumbles in the distance.... big lighting flash a few seconds after..... then the Loud thunder BANG following that wich slowly quiets down into a rumble. Maby it would be best to research actual thunder lighting events on video just to make it more realistic (I realise everyone has heard thunder and lighting befor, but for a more detailed referance).

Re: Dark, damp rainy map?

Here is another map Idea I had. It hs a detailed picture of the layout, and would have similare weather effects as this. Except the storm wouldnt be as bad, it would be off in the distance, and it takes place on a tropical island. What do you guys think?
