Re: Will there be escape pods in ships?

I think escape pods would add a nice deep feel to the game, even if their purpose remains slightly unclear (ala GC [don't stone me]). Perhaps when a escape pod launches its rockets poop out after a few seconds and they just start drifting in the zero g. Then on every capital ship could be some kind of tractor beam device that is maned by a player. If he pulls a pod into the ship he gets some major pionts, or something. I don't know. I just like that when your in the middle of the battle your always considering in the back of your head where the nearest pod is. Just incase.

Re: Will there be escape pods in ships?

I want escape pods!

Escape pods kick butt!

In addition to allowing you to escape a nearly destroyed capital ship, in GC I frequently used them to board enemy capital ships smile

Is there any way to add a feature like fuel to a craft?  In other words, you get to use the engines for a certain amount of time (you could use a countdown timer after initialy firing the engines), but if you turn the engines off (0 thrust), the time doesn't decrease.  So you can fire the engines to escape the burning wreckage of the ship you were just on, and then turn them off and float in space until someone can come near enough to pick you up.  What do ya think?  Is it possible?

Edit: Once someone gets close enough with a capital ship, you could use what's left of the remaining engine time to fire the engines and board the capital ship.

I think it would also be really cool to make escape pods visible to both sides on the mini map, but with an icon that shows which side's pod it is.  i.e. if a rebel pod shoots out of a corvette, the imps can see it on their minimap, and there will be an icon that denotes it as being a rebel pod.

Re: Will there be escape pods in ships?

I think it's a good idea too. Even the Mellinium Falcon had escape pods.

Hey, you got your Star Wars in my Star Trek!!

Re: Will there be escape pods in ships?

fuel look to me to be easy seeing as bf has a x-amount of sprint time in its coding (not a coder, dont flame me)
escape pod are always handy and you dont know what there good for untill the time is there

Re: Will there be escape pods in ships?

Wow, I never thought of that Markus, the easiest way to implement fuel for the pods would be to give them no standard propulsion engine, only a "Boost" engine, similar to the Jets' afterburner, except the pods wouldn't get the normal engine.  The only thing to change to make the booster act like fuel is to make it non-rechargeable.
