Re: 2142

I don't understand, in what way was the engine for special forces changed in any way? I know they added in new coding stuff, but changing the engine? I don't know, that just doesn't sound right to me.

Quakewars will likely play like a mix of quake and enemy territory since that's what it is. It's also going to play somewhat like a BF game with huge levels and vehicles and whatnot.

Arrgh, yar... arr ar arrgh!

Re: 2142

Quake wars looks a little....glossy to me. I don't know what you call that effect, but they used it in halo 2 as well, and I didn't like it then either. I'm not making much sense, but then again, I rarely do.

Re: 2142

Ya I think its called bloom. It just makes things feel wierd if you ask me. The battlefield 2/2142 graphics seem to be anti-bloomish. I think I like it that way, too.

There were several  new wngine feature in SF that were completely new. However these were not added by the SF CD rather by the 1.22 (I think) patch. The same was true for both booster packs, a small update with minimal features was added to make them more compatible.

Re: 2142

I can think of more reasons NOT to go to 2142 than I can reasons to go to it.

2142 will segment the BF2 player base, but won't take the majority of players, I don't think.  Also, players who buy 2142 will most likely keep BF2 installed.

The sensible question a mod team has to ask itself is 'Why on Earth would we want to port to a 1.5 cashgrab pseudo-mod a la BF Vietnam, when we could develop for the original game that still has a larger player base?'

There's your best answer right there, guys.

Re: 2142

Personally, I don't think any definite decisions concerning any mods should be made until the game comes out.  Dependent on what BF2142 would become, you may find that it is a more desirable game to all mods, or even just this one, and decide to port.  Perhaps you find that Battlefield 2 supports what you are working towards far better than 2142, and you decide to keep working on it.

It cannot be decided before the game is out, as that is nothing but foolishness.  To judge something you know nothing about is folly, and making strong claims before you have had a chance to witness what the game may become would lack judgement.  The only thing that can be done is wait, then make the decision, and of course working on the current engine until 2142 is revealed.
