Re: S-Foils?

As far as technical accuracy goes, the purpose of the s-foils is to increase the maneuverability of the craft through vectral thrust nozzles on the trailing edges of the wings as well as the firing arc of the weapon systems. Closing the s-foils does not increase the maximum speed of the craft either, as the pilot has to manually transfer power from other subsystems to the engines to increase the maximum potential speed. This was a gameplay mechanic that was implemented into the Rogue Squadron games and does not accurately reflect what really happens in Star Wars, albeit it is a really sweet gameplay mechanic, lol.

As for ships not being able to fire their weapon systems while s-foils are closed… there hasn’t been any real official material that confirms this. It’s illogical that this would truly be the case as the weapon systems would have to be armed first and opening the s-foils only increases the firing radius for the cannons. Even if it’s true, the craft could be modified to fire when s-foils are closed.

I had always wanted manual control over the s-foil systems as well as the landing skids. Just for authenticity, and I LOOOOVVVE authenticity. tongue

Another thing that I had talked about back in February was implementing a fully functional gyroscopic stabilization system for the B-wing. For whatever bizarre reason, LucasArts has never implemented this crucial feature into any Star Wars game that features the B-wing.

Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity.

Re: S-Foils?

Was the stabilizer in the film? I've read it in books...

You mean the B-wing's gyroscopic cockpit? If so... then yes!! But very, very briefly. In fact if you didn't know the B-wing had such a feature you would be hard pressed to spot it. Almost all the footage containing B-wings and their pilots (like Ten Nunb) was cut from the final version of ROTJ due to major problems with the craft showing up properly against the blue screen. The B-wing's very thin forward and rear profile made it dificult to properly shoot on film. It's such a shame. The footage of the A-wing's assaulting the deflection towers aboard the Executor was originally intended to use B-wings.

I love the B-wing and I was REALLY hoping that LF was going to digitally re-insert the footage via CGI in the '97 Special Editions or the more recent '04 Special Editions. Needless to say I was bummed. Maybe for the hotly rumored "Ultimate Edition" Star Wars Saga for the 30th Anniversary.

Re: S-Foils?

I think closing the wings should be like using after burners on BF2 jets. Ya know just make them go faster but can't fire weapons. Is this possible?

Re: S-Foils?

Did you read? That was already suggested, and it is NOT authentic. Closing the S-Foils offers no advantage in speed. Opening them provides more manuevering.

The S-foils affecting speed was only a gameplay mechanic.
