Re: SSD Map Idea

Thanks for your comments TY2D2, I like your idea about the 'T' configuration for the map, I can see how that could work really well. As far as the Blockade Runner is concerned, it's a bigger ship than you realise. Sure in ROTS the Tantive IV was revealed to have a relatively small hanger bay. But Correllian Corvettes are very versatile ships and have been known to come in a number of different configurations other than that seen in ROTS and ANH. Some EU sources have had it modified to carry a small starfighter compliment which would require a larger hanger bay than that seen in ROTS, and still others have had it configured to carry freight. Either way the ship has a number of cargo bays capable of carrying armour such as say hovertanks or speeders, and there's more than enough space for a platoon of Rebel troopers.

Anyway like I have said earlier when someone commented that it might work better if scaled down to a standard Star Destroyer so BF 2142 engine could handle the size of the map, I wouldn't be adverse to having the Rebels use some variation on the large Imperial Dropships which the Empire use to transport AT-ATs to get their heavy equipment and troops onboard.

Also in my original post I mentioned that this would not be a SSD or standard Star Destroyer at full strength or capacity. The idea would be that the ship is crippled or incapacitated in some way, be that because it's docked in a shipyard, or it's been damaged in a battle or something. Either way there is supposed to be some extenuating circumstance in this senario which leaves the ship relatively unprotected which allows the Rebel forces to mount this assault.

Either way I think we can all agree that whatever the details are that would have to be ironed out to make this work, the result would be a very original and unique map in which to explore another facet of the Star Wars universe, I don't think any Star Wars game yet, has really explored the huge interior of these massive warships. Sure we've seen hangers, a few standard corridors, and the Bridge and Command decks, but not the massive cargo holds where the Imperial Walkers lie dormant in storage awaiting the next ground assault, and certainly not the huge labyrinth that would be the Engineering section of a ship of this size.

I reckon this could be a really cool map with a lot of diversity between the cavernous hangers, cargo bays and freight service corridors, and the tighter infantry friendly standard Death Star style corridors, offices and the smaller starfighter hangers. Can you imagine how dramatic a battle between Imperial Walkers and Rebel tanks would look in a huge hanger? Or speeders screaming down the Freight corridors with troopers taking pot shots at them from gantries high up on the corridor walls? I think there's a lot of potential here for a great and original map.

Re: SSD Map Idea

Sorry but the SSD is 4 times the size of the maximum map size (its 16 km).

Scaling down an ISD wouldn't be needed since you can just simply use a Victory class SD smile

The Rebel Blockade runner is only 150 m long it'd be hard to fit a squadron of 14 meter long X-Wings in there, but it might be possible smile

But lok Dutch_Razor....

If you only model a SMALL section The hanger bays and the area around it... Then the rest could be low detail cubes that look fine from far away.... and make the flying area very small so you never see the rest because of view distance.... IT COULD WORK.

Re: SSD Map Idea

An interior SSD map is very possible. In fact I brought it up quite a while ago to the rest of the team.

A map centred around a SSD has a slim chance of working . It;d probably look abit funky tho.

Oh ok that could work (not that I know anything about that tongue), didn't read the whole thread sorry.

You could fake it for an exterior SSD battle.  Make up a space dock scene in 3DS Max with the SSD at the bottom, render a skybox from that, and have the space fighting taking place around static scaffolding and defense platforms.

Rebels need to destroy the static defense platforms and turbolasers guarding the SSD before proceeding to the interior (boarding) mission.
