Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

Here's where the cold hard reality of the BF engine comes in.  If someone ejects in a BF map then I'm afraid they're going to fall downwards till they hit the bottom of the map.  That could be a very long fall.  And in any event trying to chase them continually downwards would not only seem rather game-breakingly strange bout would be extremely hard.

Conversely if we turn off gravity on players then they can't walk around normally inside space stations/capital ships/whatever, so having transports would be pointless as they'd be trapped inside the transports.

Low gravity for them is possible but characters act very odd in low gravity on the bf servers.  Specifically on dedicated servers when they jump or go downhill they jitter violently.

So yeah.  Ejecting in space.  Not really going to be that useful I'm afraid.  Hate to be a spoilsport on it but we are on to page 9 now

Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

Assign a weapon slot in a fighter to an escape-pod like object that has a delayed firing time and behaves like those vanilla 2142 drop pods.

Make the mesh look like a pilot seat.

Give the object zero gravity properties.

This is basically what everyone came up with so far I think.  You wouldn't need to worry about player physics, only the physics of the ejection seat vehicle launched from a stricken fighter.

Anyhow regardless if players can bail out of fighters....
I'd love to see capital ship escape pods.  Give them thruster control and unlimited fuel so the players can limp back to the nearest docking bay at a snails pace, making for great fighter target practice.

Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

Yea but look.. if a player ejects and is IN a vehicle (escape pod) he would have to exit the pod to then get into the transport thip... and when he exits he would fall immediately.

I think this is where docking bays come in handy TY wink

Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

So if you eject you can only guide yourself back to a capship? That doesn't sound so great.

I still my think my "whacking" idea of 5 posts above will work.

Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

Sigh, perhaps I am but a simple man, but May I just Ask, Why this 9 page debate has gone on so long?

I mean think about it gameplay wise.

I'm in a fighter, I have a Tie on my tail, he's shooting me, so to stop him getting a Kill, I use my amazing (sarcasm) ejecting ability to deny him a kill, WOOt!  I can bask im my pure L337ness and pwnage of the ejector button, and how cunningly (sarcasm) I denied a True pilot his kill.

after that nano second of basking, I am now in my little ejector seat/pod/spacesuit/pink space resistant elephant costume, Floating around in space. Great, what do i do? use my limited (if they exist) ejection rockets to fly me towards the nearest capital ship (which most likely isn't boardable from the outside), possibly takeing actual real world time of 10 or more mins dependandt on teh ejector seats speed. Which for lore sake would be slow.

Or do I simply suicide myself to get myself back into the fight within 2 seconds?

Costing me a couple of points, wasteing possibly 10 minutes, and All for denying some random internet tie fighter, 1 measly kill.

Unlike Loreal, It's not worth it.

Re: Ejecting out of your ship in space

You cannot do that because there would be a five second delay, and if you do press the button in time all the pilot has to do is turn around and shoot you.
