Re: Fighter Controls

Rechargable shields!
Sounds like a good idea.

I miss JTL when it first came out too. One of fondest memories was lounging around the spaceport and being hired by a pilot to do some gunning. So I met another gunner and a couple others to crew the rest of the ship. We had a BLAST! It was so much fun actually being in a YT-1300 and being ordered by a captain and a crew running around the ship optimizing stats as needed. Can't wait till SWGEmu comes out.

Huh? Oh...right.. FS rox!

Re: Fighter Controls

On a slightly different note, I noticed in ANH and ROTJ that X-Wings and TIE Fighters (and thus likely all fighters) seem to be able to aim their guns slightly rather than just firing them straight ahead. An idea for First Strike?

Edit: @ Bandu - When are you gonna put GC into the filter?

Heretic.

yeah, but Rogue Squadron (while awesome) had two problems in my mind:

it was more arcade than flight sim, so cockpit view actually hindered more than helped
and it was all land maps (mind you they fixed that in the sequels, but the sequels sucked)

Whoah! Whoah! Whoah!

1) It was designed to be an arcade-style flight shooter (although I would have liked more simulator elements added like the Ace Combat series), and I LOVED cockpit view in RS II & III.

2) WHAT???!!!! yikes

Re: Fighter Controls

Indeed, the sequels were by far sub-par. Heh, I even turned off Speech totally for a long period because the lines were just too cheesy.

I could list all the things they did wrong and all the maps I disliked, but I digress. This is getting off-topic.

Galaxies was awesome before LucasArts gave in to the numerous whiners and allowed the sabre-wielding freaks to take over, effectively ruining the game.

On-topic: I'd love to see a working targeting computer, and working deflector screens/shields. Maybe in some perfect world the devs could even make the targeting computer display simple wireframe models, like in the movie?

It'd probably cause more than a fair bit of lag, though, if the game was to suddenly show another set of models for the player whenever he turned the thing on or off sad . It'd be damned awesome, though.

Re: Fighter Controls

I've personally not been a very big fan of the flight control schemes that were implemented in most Star Wars games. The games were still awesome, but were done incorrectly.

1) First off, every craft is considerably slower and less maneuverable than their on-screen counter parts.

2) Second, the whole idea of having to hold down a button to roll left or right is rediculous. Simply by observing the craft in the films and the maneuvers they perform can you see they had the ability to roll and yaw simultaneously.

3) Every craft was only allowed to select one weapon system at a time. Wrong. lol tongue

As far as the targeting systems go. The cannons are able to angle the bolts a few degrees.

I've been playing XvT/XvT:BoP Campaigns a lot these past few weeks. I feel so nostalgic. lol Classic. I LOVE those games.

Well... to each their own. I personally LOVED RS II & III. cool

I never got the chance to get into Galaxies and now I'm not so sure I want to. What with all the screw ups and all. hmm
