Re: ABC?

I don't think ABC is a good idea, because while it may be "fair" since when was war fair?

This isn't war, it's a game, which means there needs to be some balancing.

Anyone remember GC Hoth? It had a nasty tendency to break down because it was all too easy for an Imperial to get in a TIE Fighter, fly it across the map, land it in the Rebel hangar bay, and run in and capture the empty command centre, all this while the Rebel team was fighting out in the trenches. Once captured, the Command Centre became a "Second main base" for the Imperials, and the fight turned into a desperate "last stand" for the Rebels who suddenly had to defend themselves from attack from two sides. A candidate for Push mode if there ever was one, and I seem to recall that the last version of GC actually implemented Push mode.

Who said anything about uncapturable bases

FH used ABC to great effect, along with the Push system that forced you to capture things in correct order. Was great for both game-play and historical accuracy.

I feel that if the mod's supposed to represent the actualities of warfare for the common soldier, than you can't make this ABC, because then the game is just Team FFA, really - as opposed to goal based warfare.

No, it wouldn't. You'd still have to capture regular control points and achieve other objectives, so it'd be far from "Team FFA", as you put it.

And as a side note, the "common soldier" never sneaked in alone to capture rear line bases singlehandedly tongue .

Re: ABC?

Personally I've never felt assaulting main bases was a big problem, at least not in 2142. In fact I think assault the base is just fair to keep them under pressure. It's not like it's impossible to get out of the sieged main bases like in 1942 anyways. (wespe anyone?).

Enforcing rules like this goes against battlefield philosophy like allready stated. It's about freedom and it's up to the map designer to make sure that assaulting a main base doesn't destroy the game balance.

Now what FS believes as a team is a different matter but we do have custom scenarios where this might not be applicable. Testing of the maps is key, which we will do extensivly

Couldn't agree more.

Re: ABC?

How about auto-defence turrets, coupled with aural warning (like in Titan mode, where  it says "enemy in blue corridor), but over the radio, so you can hear it anywhere. That would enable you to head back to base and kill the invaders.

Except I'm pretty sure FS's Hoth won't have TIE Fighters, cause --- since when were there TIEs on Hoth???

Thats more along the lines of what us devs have come up with thus far (tho we havent really talked about it all that much)
