Re: Missile kills or "gun kills"

I'm hoping we can implement the tracking (like the anti-vehicle rockets in BF2 and BF2142) in the ships, so the rockets move where you move your cursor as long as you hold down the 'fire' button. That would add an element of skill to fighter combat and make it harder than just the 'lock on, fire' gameplay of BF2. The concussion missiles would track better, while the proton torpedoes would track slower but have a bigger bang.

As far as the anti-air handheld weapons, we do plan on having them. The projectile strength is still unknown at this time as we are still tweaking things as we go.

Re: Missile kills or "gun kills"

As much as I love the X-Wing series and the many ships and space stations they introduced, I wouldn't trust their technical information. One example is how the Interdictor cruiser is supposed to hold several squadrons of fighters although its dorsal loading bay is not even big enough for a single one. Or how an X-Wing can carry not only torpedoes, but also missiles, rockets, ion pulses, and whatever the Heck else.

A better approach would've been to have it carry only proton torpedoes, but different kinds of proton torpedoes, with various types of warheads, propulsion, electronics, etc. Likewise with A-Wings and Z-95s. Instead of two types of concussion missiles as well as "ion pulses", "mag pulses", etc., just create different configurations of the concussion missile, with those effects and stats.

Would've been far more realistic. An F-16 can carry many different types of loadouts - an X-Wing, with its internal launchers, cannot.

TIE Bombers, on the other hand, supposedly can carry a wide range of warheads, from concussion missiles to torpedoes to thermal detonators for cluster-bombing ground targets (hint to developers tongue !).

Re: Missile kills or "gun kills"

I don't see any reason you couldn't hook-up a rocket to an X-wing's targeting computer as long as that rocket fits into the tube.

You can't put a 50 cal. bullet into an 11 millimeter handgun can you?

Re: Missile kills or "gun kills"

What kind of blasters will harm starfighters BTW?
In ANH Stormtroopers are shooting at the Falcon with their blasters. So the big question is: Is this an act of frustration or do you think that they can pearce a starships armor. In my opinion gameplay would benefit if a group of troopers would be able to tear an X-Wing apart by concentrating their fire on the approaching fighter.
That 's one of the things I loved about BF1942: The ability to destroy planes with most of the primary kit weapons.
