Re: Missile kills or "gun kills"

I'm talking about those things that fly in space and kill Death Stars a.k.a. X-Wings tongue

Re: Missile kills or "gun kills"

Aghahahahahaha. Funny stuff.

Anyways, I'd like to see all missiles unguided except the concussion ones. They should be guided but still easily dodgeable.
That means they would be perfect for those "Get that guy off my tail" situations.
Mr.Rebel has Mr.Imp on his tail and asks for help. Mr.AWing flies in behind Mr.Imp and Mr.Rebel stops turning. Mr.Imp takes aim and gets blown up by Mr.AWing's concussion missile because he didn't know he had someone on his tail. The missile only hit cause he didn't try to dodge until it was too late.

Re: Missile kills or "gun kills"

well, their proton torpedoes couldn't hit a two metres stationary target, so you know...

Their anti-fighter missiles could perfectly well be fast straight-runners like the ones in World War II, but somehow I don't think that's right, either. I think they're somewhere in-between; homing, but not very effective aiming-wise.

Re: Missile kills or "gun kills"

I think the way JeRK put it, would work well. The missiles in BF2 would be far too much I think. Just give em enough homing to hit someone if your aim is off a little or they turn slightly. They should be weasling around like Jango Fetts tongue

I have a great idea for how the missiles could work!

Using lasers to shoot down enemy fighters has way more style.
The missiles should be for that situation where you are right behind the enemy and you want to kill him before he notices you.  How 'bout every missile has a "turn limit" that's measured in degrees. When the missile turns, the amount of degrees it can still turn in goes down until it reaches 0 and it only goes straight. The missile's turning speed is lets say 80° per second at 1 meter of distance from the missile's target and 0° per second at 1km, the max range. This means that the closer it flies to the target, the faster it starts to turn. If the target does a small maneuver like a turn, the missile will have no chance.

The turn limits:
(Horrible estimates, I'm sure they would have to be different)

Concussion Missile: 40°
Proton Torpedo: 20°
Other, heavier things: 0°, they are unguided cause they aren't meant for fighters anyway tongue

Re: Missile kills or "gun kills"

So I was going to post my own topic on the subject and then I remembered this thread.

As far as fighter-vs-fighter combat goes...

Gun kills only please.  Too much good gameplay is lost when air-to-air missiles are added to do the work for you.  I prefer a good dogfight where you work to get a good lead shot on a maneuvering fighter.

I don't know if anyone has ever played Aces High II (and before that Air Warriors I, II, and III) but the air wars can be truely epic.  All using WWII aircraft with no missiles.  Truely intense dogfighting.
