Do you think it's possible for the torpedo to go straight ahead, then dive on the target, like the ones in A New Hope? I watched a Project Reality movie where an anti-tank missile was fired in the direction of an enemy tank and proceeded to make a detour detour up in the air before diving down on it.
I also don't know how powerful proton torpedoes really are. Since they're anti-capital ship weapons, I can imagine their explosive power and blast radius would be pretty high, so maybe it'd be overkill to employ them against small ground targets (think a big, 1000kg bunker buster against a T-65 ;) ). Maybe if an 'anti-tank' proton torpedo was made that carried a lighter load, that'd be a better idea?
