Sorry for the late post. The X-Wing will have a VTOL (Verticle Take Off and Landing) system. It can ascend with the "Z" key and descend with the "X" key. This is the layout I think is most comfortable with the default controls but it may be changed.

X-Wing controls (Subject to change without notice):

W = Forward Thrust
S = Brakes
A = Left Rudder
D = Right Rudder
Left Arrow Key (Mouse/Joystick Axis)= Roll to the left
Right Arrow Key (Mouse/Joystick Axis) = Roll to the right
Up Arrow Key (Mouse/Joystick Axis)= Pitch up (Down with reversed controls)
Down Arrow Key (Mouse/Joystick Axis)= Pitch down (Up with reversed controls)
Z = Verticle Ascent Engine
X = Verticle Descent Engine

Wait, so is there a difference between the z/x & up/down key. Or is it basically the same?

Z and X move you up and down while keeping the ship perectly level.
Up and down tilt the ship.

Re: vertical take off

So now that we know that there is a key for vertical ascent, and a key for vertical descent, will the X-Wing just float in mid-air if no keys are pressed?  In other words, will you have to press the X key to descend all of the time, or will gravity slowly pull the ship down without pressing the X key?

Re: vertical take off

I would like to see you control the vertical decent and not gravity. Think about space maps.

Re: vertical take off

Yes, that's true on space maps, but not on ground maps.  One way to counter that would be to make there be very little gravity on space maps, that way you would fall very very very slowly, and on ground maps, you would fall with normal gravity.

There is no gravity on space maps. That's one of the things the devs said would be different from GC.
