Re: FS torrent release?

Requesting some FileShack-ness. FileShack's been pretty good for me so far. (FileFront, on the other hand, wasted about 500MB of my quota. >_>; )

EDIT: Although I haven't tried some of the websites listed in the first(?) post, so...

Re: FS torrent release?

All you need is one good torrent seeder and the rest will fly.  One good seed.  That's all.  I Try to get all my downloads as a torrent.  That way I can stop the download at any time if I wish to.  If my internet drops,  I can just restart the torrent and away she goes.  Torrents for the win

Re: FS torrent release?

I am another advocate for a torrent pre-release. I remember when EOD 2 came out, they released the torrent the exact same day as the general release. It was all a shambles. Worst let down ever!

As oddsodz said, the fact that you can just restart the torrent if your connection drops is a good advantage. Also consider the fact that a lot of mirrors and d/l sites don't allow download managers. Also alot have a restrictive time in which to d/l the file, if you go out and leave it running, your connection drops, the download will time out and you wont be able to finish the file off, wasting valuable internet allotment time that could be better spent playing the mod!

I implore you, release a pass protected torrent.

Torrent?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bittorrent

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing (P2P) communications protocol. BitTorrent is a method of distributing large amounts of data widely without the original distributor incurring the entire costs of hardware, hosting and bandwidth resources. Instead, when data is distributed using the BitTorrent protocol, each recipient supplies pieces of the data to newer recipients, reducing the cost and burden on any given individual source, providing redundancy against system problems, and reducing dependence on the original distributor.

Basically, it's a protocol that uses bandwidth from everyone that's downloading the file, because everyone is also uploading to other users.
It is especially useful on popular files since it doesn't put strain on a single server.

All that is required is a tracker that coordinates all the clients and hosts a small .torrent file that contains information about the real file.
All you need as a user is to download the .torrent file and open it in a BitTorrent client.
