Re: Maps in the first release?

Honestly, Canadiens' GC dogfighting map was very well done.  Fighters spawned in space, but inside invisible undestroyable 'boxes' so people couldn't camp them (easily).  You spawned in, and the fighter dropped/flew out through it -- you entered the battle with some velocity, as if you were speeding to reinforce the battle already taking place. smile

There were always some people who wanted a primarily dogfighting map in GC, and there were always people who said it'd be boring.  I just figure since it's some fighter placement and a skybox (obstacles, junk or capital ships optional), it couldn't be too hard to put one together.  Perhaps in a future release, they can throw one in -- if people are bored, they'll take it off their servers (or players will vote for the next map).

So many complaints have been made about BF2142, but the one that makes the game suffer the most, imho, is the lack of maps and updates with more maps.  So long as there's new content, the game has longevity.  It's taken a while, but mods for BF2142 (with new maps) are just what it needs. smile

Today's spelling/grammar tip: There = a (sometimes conceptual) place. "There is my car." or "There is such a thing as magic."  // Their = posessive. "Their meat is full of worms." // They're = contraction of <they are>. "They're crazy!" // "They're trying to put their shoes up there."

Re: Maps in the first release?

Heh, I made a custom MP skirmish map for XWA once by putting lots of Repair Yards together, creating a labyrinth of sorts that made for a really fun setting. It was an all-dogfighting map, but it was a lot of fun.

As for a dogfight map in an obstruction-free setting, I could learn to like that, too.

Besides, it depend on the map. Placing Tie fighters against A-wings (X-wings would pwn them so bad) in an empty region of space is a little uninspired.

You do realize A-Wings are even more agile and fast than X-Wings, right? They were a nightmare in GC - so damned tiny, and so shamelessly fast. Nearly impossible to hit unless you came across one that was unaware of your presence and flying straight forward.
