Re: Who here plays Halo 1?

Halo is a good game. If you take away all the hype what does it have that another game doesnt have?

Re: Who here plays Halo 1?

It's hard to descibe, it's a more....social game then, say, CS or something. (Maybe that's why it does so good in parties)

It can be intense at times, like in a clan match or something, but I'm more of a pubber, and the pub halo atmosphere....it just feels more "do whatever" then other games. Which is not to say there isn't teamwork, if you don't say anything for the most part people will leave you to your own devices, but if you start formulating a plan to, say, cap a flag (CTF is my fav game mode in halo), then people almost always cooperate.

I guess it's hard to put a finger on, but it seems less frantic and chaotic then other games (which would be a turn-off to some, but I like it, lets me plan better), which lets the light tactical feel of the game shine. One of my favorite things to do is see how much I can avoid combat while sneaking in to get a flag. Then it's a rush to try and escape the enemy base when the whole team knows your there, lots of rounding corners, turning around, trying to avoid bullets (and worse still, rockets)....that's the sorta thing I like about halo.

Basically, in halo, you're given the freedom to play however you want to. I prefer to coordinate and sneak around, but some people just prefer to grab a rocket launcher and cause a ruckus. In halo every person feels almost like a 1 man squad (due in most part to the whole "shield" dynamic), so it gives more power to the player while not discouraging teamwork, since teamwork will still win games. It's just a more open-ended game imo.

You can do all that in 1942

Not really actually.

In battlefield (idk about 1942), you have to deal with stances, and you die a lot easier.

For that reason, gameplay is much more static, while in halo it's more run & gun.

Also, because the jump height and distance are so far, bunnyhoping is pretty ineffectual.

Therefore, the skill to master is moving around so that the enemies shots miss, but not so much that your's don't hit.

It' hard to describe, but I know for sure that halo's the only game where you can run across a gulch, taking down 3 other guys with a pistol, and not get into a crouch once. big_smile

Then going into there base, while dodging people, assainating one, picking up the flag, seeing a guy walk into the flag room, waiting until right when he walks in the flag room, then taking the opposite entrance out the way he came in. But not before leaving a grenade in the flag room.

I play battlefield when I want a millitary squad based objective-type game.

I play halo when I just want to go battle, without letting realism get in the way.
