Re: Single Player mini-mod WIP

I have been working on with twigs on getting more AI into the game for the next release.   I will see about doing an update to the FS_SP mini-mod to support the current release of First strike.

Hi Twigs, it's been a while we've talked last time anywhere wink You can be sure that I'm absolutely interested in the wonders of the new AI engine of First Strike v1.5 big_smile but ... as long as there aren't maps where we can fight to them ... we must be content with v1.4

It has indeed been a while Red.

I'm a little confused. What do you mean there are no maps where you can fight the ai?

First Strike 1.5 has the following AI maps where you can fight the bots:
Battle of Yavin (with bots flying Ywings, Xwings and TIE's)
Encounter at Mos Entha (Standard Infantry map)
Endor Strike Team (Infantry)
Endor Clearing (infantry but also features bots driving Speeder bikes, Combat Speeders and ATST)
Bestine (Infantry)

All these maps are available to play as Singleplayer or in Co-Operative mode online.

I think we also included Tattooine Mos Espa for Singleplayer only (due to some issues with Co-Op and Bandomeer Refinery for Singleplayer only. Bandomeer is a bot dog fighting map so you can shoot down ships.

As said, there are other maps in the pipeline to be added and further tweaks and enhancements to be made.

I'd really try giving 1.5 a chance if you haven't already.

Re: Single Player mini-mod WIP

The FS_SP mod had the stock 2142 conversion maps and several custom maps:

Carbone Hill
Carbone Island
Outpost Hoth
Anchorhead

Ok Twigs, of course I knew there's conquest coop / sp support for a few maps in FS v1.5 (actually guessed it already before RSF_Angel shared this fact with me), sorry if I was ambiguous, you're right, facts are facts. When I said "... there aren't maps where we can fight to them ..." I thought we have too few maps comparing to those FS_SP has, even comparing to those for which First Strike has conquest mode (or I suppose so, may be I'm wrong). But ... let's see my set of maps for FS_SP:

2142_Shipment
bandomeer_refinery_assault
battle_of_ryloth
battle_of_taloraan
Battle_of_Yavin
Belgrade
Bloodgulch
Camp_Gibraltar
carbone_hill
carbone_island
Cerbere_Landing
Cologne
encounter_at_mos_entha
Endor_Clearing
endor_strike_team
escape_from_hoth
Fall_of_Berlin
German_Camp
Highway_Tampa
imperial_convoy_raid
island
lagueriniere_outpost_hoth
Minsk
Panorama
researchs_in_Anchorhead
rhen_var_ice_plains
Severnaya
Shuhia_Taiba
Sidi_Power_Plant
Suez_Canal
tatooine_bestine
tatooine_mosespa
the_hell
Tunis_Harbor
Verdun
walker_battle

This includes some BF 2142-FS conversion maps as well, not all of them are "clean" FS maps.

Btw I have conquest cooperative / sp version for almost all (if not all) the BF 2142 maps including Northern Strike Maps etc through 2142_SP mod and my approach on any game generally is that if that game doesn't have a fully completed, finished Single Player Part what is at least as good as the Multiplayer Part (just like the original BF 2142 didn't have) that game is just a half game and nowise can be a good game. The AI engine of BF 2142 enhances the value of the game a lot and it was a big mistake from the devs they limited it for those few default conquest cooperative maps.

well ... sooner or later I'll obviously have to ... big_smile

FS is not a finished product. Its been given to us in bits and pieces since release 1, which allowed us to play online with the maps that were then available smile
There has been bot support added for maps gradually, but bot support is difficult to add into a map and make it a good proper experience.  It's not a limitation added by the devs, rather, we are given new assets and maps and gamemodes as soon as they are produced and tested so that they are reliable.

The two alternatives would be to:

1- Release all material no matter how finished it is- giving us a game that is full of bugs and problems

2-Wait until every map is completely finished, with bot support, including Hoth, before releasing the mod. This would mean we have no game to play now!

I much preferred getting a Tatooine Mos Entha map and playing it on multiplayer for X months before bot support arrived.

Angel, the first thing I'd like to posit is that I widely appreciate all the efforts of the entire FS and 2142_SP/FS_SP Mod community especially the leader devs and testers, and if you guys wouldn't be there I'd prolly never even bother myself with studying BF 2142 at all big_smile Course I don't know too much about what it exactly consists of to build up such mods, there's one thing I know though, that it takes a huge work. It seems I can't really express my thoughts clearly enough again (guess you guys need a dictionary for me big_smile), when I said "... it was a big mistake from the devs they limited it for those few default conquest cooperative maps ..." I didn't really talk about any kind of "intentional limitation of existing game features" but I rather talked about a kind of intentional game pre-conception / idea. The devs should've 'ab ovo'/originally released the game with AI support for all BF 2142 default maps in my oppinion. Or if this costed so much then they could've released the AI support for the rest of the maps in a later update. I just don't believe if they could do this job for the default conquest cooperative / sp maps they couldn't do the same for all default BF 2142 maps. Course may be I'm wrong, I'm not a "wise man" of this, I form my judge as an end-user and my oppinion about 'multiplayer-only games' is older than BF 2142 actually.

The actual reason why I've brought up putting that "standalone patch for FS 1.4" together was exactly that I thought this would be the "most low-cost" solution for those who'd like to play FS_SP with it's original features as long as Dnamro and others would work on the next version of FS_SP. But this was just a guess, course I expected rejection with a good chance smile

Re: Single Player mini-mod WIP

The only low cost solution would be using the 1.4 standalone and running it from a desk top shortcut instead of the launcher/updater.
