It's not overrated, it's just that the people who don't like it say it is. But the majority of people do like it. I do, but not to the point where I'd stay up til midnight to get a copy

the battlefield series may have a better online experience, but singleplayer wise halo has a better storyline.

That is the way I feel too.
Online Halo did nothing for me, it was just the usual head-on rush of bunnyjumpers.
The storyline however was really good. The ancient ring floating in space reminded me of classics like Ringworld and Rama.
But I admit that some levels were repetitive, and the switching from MC to the Arbiter in Halo 2 also annoyed me.

I would really like to play Halo 3 just to experience the conclusion of the story.
But not enough to buy a Xbox 360. I feel a bit betrayed that the didn't release an Xbox version too.

Maybe it will be out on PC later. Hopefully MS will not pull one of their DX10-only stunts at that time.

I love halo, single and multiplayer, BF might have more weapons, vehicles, and such, but halo just feels more open ended imo.

Halo is just another game. For me it has done nothing new that pc games did do years ago. I had more fun playing dark forces 2 then halo 1.

battlefield is great multiplayer and the players are act mature instead of like retards.

it definitely has a better feel then battlefield
