Re: Dead? hamsters I hope not...

Nah. Each update will bring new players, and bring back many of those leaving now.  What will keep the Mod dynamic and growing overall (with the inevitable waves in and out) will be content that gives players what they don't get in vanilla. For many, that's the Star Wars theme. For others, it'll be lots more maps, as Bloedig_Vader said -- vanilla is SADLY lacking, in that department.

Two other things work in the Mod's favor:

First, all those people who *need* rewards for their play will feel let down when they get to Brigadier General. No more unlocks, very few and difficult medals/badges left. They'll be looking for something new. And, trust me... if they want to play for the rewards, they'll end up getting to BG rank soon enough.

Second, the first release of most mods are for the fans to see/get a taste of what's to come (before they get bored waiting), and for the Devs to get something out there, to show those fans just what they've been working on, all this time. smile  After the bugfixes, the second & third releases usually have loads more cool stuff, and some slick demo videos which really pump up the fans, and get posted on all the game news sites, bringing in loads more fans.

Trust me, so long as they keep building it, they'll come. tongue

Today's spelling/grammar tip: There = a (sometimes conceptual) place. "There is my car." or "There is such a thing as magic."  // Their = posessive. "Their meat is full of worms." // They're = contraction of <they are>. "They're crazy!" // "They're trying to put their shoes up there."

Re: Dead? hamsters I hope not...

One week before 2-3 server full (or nearly full) of player. Now 2 server with 4 player... (its euro side).

Edit: Well I try post it on a game magazin forum and I already post it (FS big_smile) on moviebattles 2 (its a multiplayer mod for jedi academy no more brainless fight! No more who is the best jumper! big_smile)

Re: Dead? hamsters I hope not...

It doesn't look good at all.  I didn't play last night as the night before all I could find were two space servers.

I have some BF2 (and 2142) friends that basically have told me the following:
1.  They hate the weapons.  I think they are fine, but I guess they are too out there and unrealistic (just my guess...I never been told exactly what is wrong with the weapons).

2.  They hate space.  I've mentioned this before and it seems counterintuitive given that the servers that still seem to be alive are space servers (at least the ones that I have a good ping with)...but space, in R1, I feel was a mistake.  It is fun and novel for some, but a massive turnoff for others, ESPECIALLY the majority of the FPS gamers.  From what I can tell, space has singlehandedly driven away many many would-be players.  I think it is well implemented and fairly fun, but overall the masses seem to dislike it (or the idea of it) and thus stay away.

3.  They don't like the maps and lack thereof.  Mos Espa I love personally (dare I say my favorite?), but most folks I talk to hate it due to its maze like layout (including many folks here).  So that leaves you with Endor which was crashing and one other infantry map in R1.  So, from a pure BF'ers perspective, they have one infantry map (at most) that they like.  Couple that with the common distaste for space and you get a lot of people doing a 2 hour eval, disliking it, leaving, and never looking back.

So, from what I've seen, the masses asked themselves "is there something else I'd rather be playing?".  If they don't like Star Wars, the answer was always "Yes" and they didn't bother with FS (which is fine...non-Star Wars loving buggers!).  The others, gave it a shot at R1 and, considering what I've stated above, said "Yes, I'd rather still play BF2/BF2142/PR/ET:QW/whatever".  I know some hardcore Star Wars folks who are among the latter group.  Personally, there's nothing I'd rather be playing BUT there's nobody to play with whenever I'm on...so I bought TF2.  I'll keep booting up FS...but if I don't see an occupied server, I'll naturally go play something else....just like pretty much everyone else does.

So, what good are problems without any solutions?  My only offered solutions are:
1.  More infantry vs. space.  Still push space maps for sure, but include more infantry.  Engage as many mappers as possible to get these out.  Use existing BF2142 maps if needed as a stop-gap solution (has been suggested by others before).
2.  Conduct a Voice-of-the-Customer with some of the BF clans to see what they like/dislike and make changes accordingly.
3.  Beef up the marketing so each launch seems to on par with hamsters himself giving a speech at the UN.
4.  Recruit more staff to make this all happen sooner rather than later.

That's just my opinion and indeed, it is way easier said than done for sure.

Don't take me wrong, I love the MOD and I have nothing but the utmost respect for the Devs and the rest of the team.
