I think the one thing you guys need to do is GET THIS ON THE COMMUNITY MENU PAGE!

That way, everyone who boots up 2142 will see it, and hopefully a download link is included as well.

You guys just went to DICE, and they didn't think to do this small favor for you?

I think that's up to EA, not DICE.  Unfortunately, EA is not so friendly.

I'm sure if there was a 64 player server, then you might see a large spike in population... *hint hint*

Re: Dead? hamsters I hope not...

Well, I am very new to this mod, and absolutely loving the matches I have played so far lol

My vote would be for regular releases. I have followed a mod for C&C Generals Zero Hour for well over a year now. At first, I would visit their Forums everyday, contributing. As they have not had any new release / update for well over 9 months now, I have gradually visited less and less, and I have noticed that  there are less and less posts on the forums sad It's not that I am unloyal - just very disappointed that there does not appear to be any new development.

I think regular releases keep interest high. Also, what about getting info / interviews in gaming magazines around the world? Great publicity.

Another place to advertise / promote MOD would be CrosuS Mod Manager http://www.isotx.com/index.php?view=4045.

One thing that server admins can do is take off friendly fire.  I know it makes it more "un realistic" but it also goes a long way to making it more "old school" feeling.  I play on a Special Forces server all the time because of two reasons. One is the map (Warlord) and two is the fact they turn off all friendly fire.  Yes I know not realistic, but a hell of a lot of fun.

Agree strongly with this - friendly fire on means you end up with a horrendous minus score, and for new comers, may put them off of mod as being unplayable.

As for space maps, they disappointed me at first as they seemed to be just random flying and shooting with no real purpose. Later, though, I realized that all they need is teamwork. When ships form up and cooperate, things get really, really intense really fast. I try to give hints and orders like 'keep the ships together' and such when playing, as I know it makes the game better for everyone when teamwork is used.

Very much with you on this one - one of the BF's series greatest assets is TEAMWORK, playing in a squad makes a far more enjoyable game, and this is especially true in space combat.

EA are all about making money, therefore if you can throw them the angle of "mod makes product more appealling = more sales = more money" they may go for it.

Sadly, unless the Devs have some special "in" at EA, you'll never get past the brain dead troglodytes manning the public communication channels into EA (i.e. phone and email).  Their job is to get rid of folks who try to contact EA as quickly as possible, not to escalate potentially good ideas to the ivory tower folks (who probably wouldn't formally support it anyway due to the massive risk of being sued by LucasArts...even if the Devs have been very careful on that front).

True, but as EA are only technically prompting the use of their engine (well DICE's really), by saying "look what kind of MODS you can do", they might be willing to run the risk. Didn't think there was a great deal of Love between the two companies smile

Re: Dead? hamsters I hope not...

Again... constant updates are good but what kind of time frame are you people talking about? Days? Weeks? Months?

I know I would be pissed if I had to DL Version 1.25000001 to allow me to play online and have it only give me a blaster =/

Dudes, chill. People still play this mod, not to mention this mod isnt a month old... (I dont think its bloody half a month old). I play this mod more than 2142 and I love 2142, its just this is something I find interesting.

All that needs to be done is a collective step back. A deep breath, and some patience.

I bet you once R2 releases this will be back on stage.
