I just figured out that my tools will not work with the downloaded version of BF2142.   Currently it checks the registry to the BF2142 installation folder and for the BF2142 executable based on the disc version.  It aborts if it can't find the information.   I just found out that the downloaded version uses a different executable file and probably has different registry settings.

I going to do an update that gives a warning message if the tool can't find bf2142, set the default install location for BF2142, but allow the user to change it if they need to.
