Re: The Derelict

Its a rugged shaped hole. This is scifi, logic and the laws of physics are secondary as long as the situation isn't too freaky.

Re: The Derelict

Le sigh it kills me to see the butchery of Physics...

Structural Integrity only matter if FORCES are acting on an object. This ship is derilict, is under no acceleration, and is not close enough to a gravitational force that is large enough to destroy it. Therefore even if its SI is down to nothing (which it is not as ISDs are rock solid) it wont just inexplicably collapse on itself >_>. Please... think like Newton would SD.

I would assume the sd was moving when it took a hit, also structural failure as a result of explosions. And another possible force is the actual impact of the asteroid.

Re: The Derelict

Anyways, whenever SD is done talking about the physics of asteroid impacts, could we get on to talking about the actual map, please?

Re: The Derelict

ok sounds like a good map.

Re: The Derelict

^_^ Sorry about my digression! SD assume that the ISD isn't built with explosives... ships are known to be able to surivive large collisions. The ISD could definately survive specifically if its crew had procedures to ensure survivability. *DONE*

Okay so I have one idea:

Make this into an objective map. The ISD will need to be destroyed by internal detonations since the Imps do not have to ability to destroy it with thier ships. Their will be a various amount of "weak points" to the Structural Integrity that boarding parties place Det Packs on (I would imagine once these areas a hit a peice of the ISD would break off killing anyone left in that section).

The Rebels have to get in and defend these locations!

Re: The Derelict

Some of you guys don't know much about space, physics, and the potential for damage just like Norton explained.  IF and asteroid was moving fast enough (and there are some in our own Solar System that are) can punch a hole in a Star Destroyer and keep on trucking like it ran into a wall of rain.  So this kind of damage is feasible and realistic. Great idea Norton!

BTW - I'm an amateur astronomer and I know a thing or two about celestial objects, the physics involved, especially the physics behind momentum and forces in space.  A rock, the size of a baseball - travelling at 32000mph in space (not uncommon), can rip through 10 feet of steel and keep moving as if it hit soft butter.  Might have a few cracks in it, but it'll still be a rock - the size of a baseball, moving at 32000mph - give or take a few hundred mph for the previous impact.
