Thanks TY, thats what I thought would probably be easier (tongue in cheek)to implement than a load of huge ships all trying to manouvere with fighters in between.

Yeah, most ships will have to be static, with mostly automated turrets.

what if the 2nd unfinished deathstar, was made from buildings  that resemble the inside of an unfinished DS.. would that work the same as making a ship itself as far as lag and what not.
that way the map itself would just be starting inside the DS and working to the core.

Making a tunnel would be as simple as making a tunnel graphic. No problem there. The problems are how well fighters can handle in such tunnels, especially with them full of debris, and how well this'd play out anyway, gameplay-wise.

I'm working on possibly creating the first piece of this battle for a map.  Basically just a massive Cap Ship Battle, but obviously not containing all 34 ISD and the SSD.  It will most likely be some number of ISD vs Home One, some Frigates, and Possibly a couple more Mon Cal cruisers.  The turrets on the ISDs should be mannable and destroyable and the goal will basically be:

Empire - Destroy certain % of Rebel Fleet
Rebels - Survive for a set time limit without getting pushed back (vary per map size probably)

There are some tweaks coming for space battles that should make this massive cap ship on cap ship assault (Obviously there will be fighters available as well) quite enjoyable.

I don't think static ship implacements will offer an interesting fight, there should be soooome minimum movement for the big ships at least. Maybe isolate movement only on a X-coord plane?

Have you guy figured out how to work the 4x map size?

In anycase.... the first DS battle will probably be the most epic one in FS.
