I used to follow PR heavily but I think with the most recent patch they have put way too much realism into it. Its all well and good having a 'realism' mod that plays out like more of a tactical sort of shooter and not a run-and-gun fest like vanilla BF2, but there is a big difference between fun and realistic. And I think there is too emphasis on the realistic aspect in the new version, and not enough on the fun.
The maps are HUGE, and they took out spawning on a squad leader. So you have to either walk the entire way back to the front lines or drive/fly, which will still take a good amount of time on some of the maps. Then you get back to your squad and sit around in the forest for ages doing nothing. You then emerge from said forest and get sniped/airstriked/owned/pwned/blown into another dimension. Then you start again. I think PR is in it's element with really small close quarters infantry style maps (America's Army kinda thing), then it can be alot of fun. The big ones just get frustrating.
I started playing Vanilla BF2142 and of course First Strike (2142 is more fun at the moment though because of the lack of playerbase in FS, that will change soon though I hope) and realised just how much more entertainment I was getting out of it compared to PR.
Then I realised theres a ton of other good mods for BF2, so I downloaded FH2 and PoE2 - having a blast with both.
