Re: Ranking. It's cool and all that but...

Just one other thing...i don't think that the medic's defibrillator should be one of the substituted items, since they are one of the main tools of the medic. Thats what separates a medic from a "Special-trooper". Maybe the thing replaced could be the droid/grenade?

Or the Bacta Canister. Since the Defibrillator doubles as an offensive weapon that kills instantly already, the issue is to make some point for the Lethal Injection item I proposed, which also kills instantly if it hits. The injection has no "warm-up" time from trigger-pull to prick-death, so it's a faster acting quick kill; however, you lose the ability to revive team-mates. You can still support them with bacta and med-droid, however.

Have the " heavy bacta canister"  ... And you can club them over the head with it as a blunt force weapon.  A melee weapon with all the goodness of bacta !

Why would the medics items be substituted at all?

For reasons I state in post one of this thread (which has grown to epic proportions) It makes it so that you don't just point-hog or whatever to get upgrades or substitute items, the catch is that you have to give up a kit item in order to integrate it. If you want to have the opportunity to excel at melee combat as a medic, you have to give up the ability to revive and be an asset to your team in that regard. Alternately, it could be instead of the sonic/toxin grenades; you lose the ability to flush out enemies, but gain a quickly-lethal put-down weapon.

Though I typically disagree with the conservatism of the devs, and people like TY2D2, I think this strays from your typical conservatism, and may possibly suffer. Lightsabers are not included because you don't want to tailor to every noob out there, but then you turn around and make the game ranked?

I personally think that there are better ways to appeal to more people, such as, adding more vehicles, diversifying the timeline of maps (i.e. having a few BBY maps) and having more maps in general.

Re: Ranking. It's cool and all that but...

The ranking system is not going to effect your in game assets in anyway so this is a moot point, we are not adjusting your weapon loadout or adding any more customisation to that loadout as a result of the ranking system.

I'm not sure what conservatism you're talking about inund8, but the reason we don't have Lightsabers in this game has nothing to do with Noobs, it has to do with the fact that the era we are dealing with in First Strike had next to no Jedi around, and we are concentrating on the common grunt on the frontline of the Galactic Civil War.

And as far as appealing to more people by adding more maps and vehicles? What do you think we're going to release with 1.2? Just the ranking system?

roll

Of course 1.2 is going to include various new maps, new vehicles, and even new gameplay types.  As far as the timeline of our maps goes we are concentrating on the Galactic Civil War era, which basically means the original movie timeframe, but we may look at things that happened prior to Yavin or after Endor, but primarily we are talking Rebel vs Empire. Once this already vast playground of source material has been mined, then and only then would we perhaps look at dealing with other eras such as the prequels or the New Jedi Order or whatever, but that is quite a ways off yet.

Hope this helps clear some of this stuff up.
