Starfighters don't vent anything into space as far as I'm aware.  If they did, it would be just as likely to freeze as I'm sure the life support system generates some humidity in the cabin or the pilots would be extremely uncomfortable.. so really, there are no vents for humidity in Hoth's atmosphere to freeze over.  More likely to freeze would be the fluids that kept engines, etc. running properly.  However, obviously these would be just as likely to freeze as in atmosphere.

I think the simple solution is just that the XWings were needed to guard the Gallofrees.  They WERE going up against a Star Destroyer and time was of the essence.

Don't you think they would have vents so that you could turn off life support on habitable planets?

Exactly.

Re: Starfighters on Ground Maps

If we were going with the moisture in the atmosphere freezing up the Starfighters I could believe that. Sure, it's cold in space, but without moisture up there there is nothing to clog up intakes and the like. However, in an atmosphere with all that sleet and snow being flung everywhere I could see those clogging and freezing up vital systems.

This is the gist of what I was saying.
But now that I've watched ESB again, I think Imperial's right about the x-wings

Alrighty then:

Aye, but we don't want to go EU mad though, and remember this game is taking place in the Galactic Civil War period, so a lot of that New Republic and Imperial Remnant or whatever hardware is out of bounds.

GCW Lasted a lot longer than a lot of people might like to think. O_o

Except there's nothing wrong with having starfighters in ground maps. That's like saying that there are so many vehicles in Star Wars that there's no reason to have AT-STs and AT-AT walkers.

Do starfighters perform poorly in atmosphere? Fine, then let them perform poorly in atmosphere. They'll still work just fine.

Well, a lot of starfighters do not work as well in the atmosphere as in space. Many face maneuverability issues and the like. The A-Wing for example, needs adjustments made to it's stabilizers to fly in atmospheres.

We already go beyond the Death of the Emperor in some cases, but I would say that the taking of Imperial Center pretty much ended the GCW, as that is when the Empire really became more of a remnant threat and a terrorist organization than a true government.  I suppose it could also be fairly argued that the GCW didn't end until the Pellaeon-Gavrisom Treaty was signed between the Empire and the New Republic in 19ABY but it really was over long before that I think.

Remember, the emporer died like, 3 times. In that time he unleashed new weapons like the Eclipse Super Star Destroyer, the World Devastators, and the Galaxy Gun. Even after his final death, the imperial remnant was still a threat for a long time.

That's what I was thinking...

The way I see it, the StarFighters can be easily transported to new system since a pilot can fly them there or they can be stored or may already be stored in a larger capitol ship. The atmospheric ones may not have time to be stored onto a capitol ship before relocation and aren't AS useful to the rebels since they cannot be used in space. Which is going to be my main justification for Star Fighters in most ground maps big_smile

Re: Starfighters on Ground Maps

Basically the reasons for airspeeders on ground maps are...
A: Lore
B: Variety
V-Wings can be transported to other systems via V-Wing transports that are stored in capital ships.
T-47s (snowspeeders...for all you "normal" people) can be transported via Gallofrees.
T-16 Skyhoppers are civillian. They are usually everywhere, because they are a usual personal transport and can be used on many worlds.
