Re: Should Heavy Vehicles be locked?

Is it possible to unlock a vehicle after a team captured a control point? For example the rebels stole some AT-ST or another imperial vehicle but they can't use them, because the vehicles are safed with a code. So they have to defend the useless vehicles until a hacker comes. If the imperials can chase the rebels away they can use the vehicles and attack the nearby rebel outpost with a huge advantage.

I vote for yes, if it is map specific

Re: Should Heavy Vehicles be locked?

Being able to steal your enemies equipment is all part of the fun of the Battlefield series of games. In Enemy Territory Quake Wars you can't, which in my view lessens the game. How cool is it to attack a piece of armour only for its driver to bail, you jump in and pwn him with it. First rule of BF "Never get out of a perfectly good vehicle"

"Something something something Dark Side.. Something something something Complete!"

Apparently X-wing pilots can fly Ties- the only thing is they have to get used to is the speed, maneuverability and lack of shields.

Technology is fairly standardised in starwars- there was never an instance of someone not knowing how to use stuff- as in the aforementioned Deathstar example- they knew how to read all the monitors and use all the computer consoles and equipment- enough to know how to navigate a station the size of a small moon and take out tractor beams and get into a detention block.

An exception might be Luke blasting the control panel, but he's a farm boy who's never been off world.

The following acts of 'liberation of materials' in the movies:

Ep IV: Stealing stormtrooper armour and successfully infiltrating Deathstar
using unfamiliar stolen E11 blaster rifles to deadly effect
hacking the imperial systems via astromech droid
Turning off tractor beam by means of a switch
          Smuggler operates imperial comm system
farm boy operates unfamiliar turret gun to shoot down trained imperial tie pilots

Ep V: Smuggler is familiar enough with Imperial fleet equipment/procedures to know where their sensors can't find him and to know when they will dump their rubbish.

Ep VI: Rebels use stolen skiff speeder to flee explosion of Jabba's sail barge.
Thereafter use skiffs magnetic winch system to retrieve droids from sand.
Use stolen shuttle and stolen codes to bypass Imperial fleet security (with help from dad)
Rebels (and an ewok!) successfully use stolen speederbikes to navigate forest at speed.
Chewbacca ganks ATST while Imperials are still inside (can we do that in game pls?)
Luke flys Imperial shuttle away from deathstar II .

mmkay but most of that is movie stuff
if the star wars universe was our universe,(fs in real life =D) those things like infiltrating the deathstar wouldn't be possible. lol that's just some heroic fiction. shooting an e11 is certainly possible because anyone can shoot a gun and if u can aim, you can aim with an e11

What's your opinion?

When I say heavy vehicles I mean, the Firehawke and Freerunner, and other vehicles of its class or more rare/powerful. This does not include the ATST and others below it on the vehicle 'food chain' like speeders.

I will save my views for after I see some other peoples input, as I foresee a few common arguements that will crop up.

Yes, i'm still alive. >_>

Anyway, didn't we already cover this?

And didn't i lose that argument? XD

Basically, i think vehicles shouldnt be locked, cuz i think it's cool and realistic to be able to steal your enemies' equipment, and i would LOVE to see people typing, "WTF?!?!?!" when i sneak up to an AT-AT and steal it. If you really want to, (uh...emphasis on "really") then you can use UT3's method. Vehicles are locked from the start, but when someone comes and gets in, uses it, then gets out, its unlocked and can be hijacked. I personally dont really like this method, but whatever, use it if you with. >_<

Curses, foiled again!

Who is more nerdy? The nerd, or the one who follows with posts about nerdiness?

IMO, anything that has implied personnel should be locked.  Capital ships can't be flown at all effectively by one person.  In a way, implied personnel is how mobile spawn points are justified in a game-setting.  So, things that big, no stealing.  Anything below is fair game.

I can understand why some people would want to keep a row of tanks/starfighters in their base locked. It stops lone-wolves from speeding over and stealing stuff.  Still, in those rare times when you're driving a speeder, taking damage from somebody tenacious on your six, but manage to stop and escape, say, near the enemy base... I'd rather be able to jump into the enemy's vehicle and get back to the fight, than have to run all the way back or suicide.

I'd rather twenty lone-wolf dinks stole tanks for each time a better player is able to turn the tide by getting into a nearby empty vehicle than never be able to drive one, at all.

Today's spelling/grammar tip: There = a (sometimes conceptual) place. "There is my car." or "There is such a thing as magic."  // Their = posessive. "Their meat is full of worms." // They're = contraction of <they are>. "They're crazy!" // "They're trying to put their shoes up there."

That more effectively explains my opinion more than I could do myself tongue
