Re: FS Instructional videos

AAAARGH! Extensive Angel investigative research has concluded that 30 y-wing bombing runs are required to kill a single defection tower in the 64player Yavin .

Thats 120 torpedoes, x 4 towers+ the exhaust port shot= 481 torpedoes to blow up the Deathstar!

Worryingly, the flavour text uses the phrase 'enough successful hits on the exaust port'

I'm assuming 1 hit is enough right?

THis means abandon noob tactics of lone wolfing it , and organize a fighter wing who knows how to fly formation .
I guarantee you can take them out proportionally faster with a combined strike.
I will make a video of how a stike formation setup to attack a surface target might look like.
We try and fly like the blue angels when we attack them, and it appears they do crumble.

Re: FS Instructional videos

Do it like dis -
Leader is only one who talks freely.
others only when it might really matter.
Everyone jog their fighters up in a line-abreast formation (broad) evenly, and hold.
Left hand fighter bomber is leader.
each pilot only watches his lefthand wingmate.
when the leader accellerates slowly, his right hand wingman follows suit.
and so on.
The formation naturally will stretch out a little (evenly) as the lead accellerates forward, and others catch up.
leader sets the attack speed for everyone, no comms needed at all.
leader fires 1st always, hold fire and target lead target.
the whole time here, no coms at all.
minimal coms from leader between runs.
try it and use 5 bombers firing as close to simultaneously as possible ... while moving at the target full speed. (important)
Watch the surface target die faster than expected.

Re: FS Instructional videos

Yeah, the key thing when hitting the death star towers is having your entire team be coordinated. This is the sort of thing that clans excel at. It doesn't have to be all a tactical precision scenario, it could be like:

Anyone flying X-wings, stay close to the surface and engage TIE fighters and ground turrets, hit the tower with torpedoes when opportunity arises.

Anyone flying Y-wings, form up on squad leader 1 and approach southeast turret at high altitude relative to surface. Follow his lead and fire lasers at 1,200 meters, launch torpedoes at 600. Restore to high altitude before enemy TIEs can react, bombard a non-contested tower with lasers until torpedoes are back. If people are following SL One's lead, they can do all this without a lot of communication.

It'll take about six passes with five Y-wings to bring down the towers (assuming that only torpedoes are used, it'll probably take like 3 or 4 once the laser attack and the X-wing strikes are taken into account.) Now, if you get eight Y-wing pilots (or on a true 64 player-size map assault, between 10 and 15), that time will get cut drastically. It'll probably be a sight to behold, too.

I have fond memories of the GC_Deathstar massive coordinated Rebel attack that I helped create. We had the entire team form up on the surface, and then all go in a massive push for the trench. It amazed the Imp team as much as it did us "HOLY !@#$ Rebel swarm, lots of red lasers". So we did it again.
