Re: Map Suggestions..

I'm wrestling with the editor, which I finally got around to installing and readying, and trying to figure out how everything works. I've seen far more user-friendly editors in my life, and it has a nasty reputation, with my fellow testers and devs referring to it in less-than-friendly ways, so I'm not sure exactly what I'm getting into. We'll see, though - I have a couple of ideas I'd like to see realized. Trying to make a small test map now with a little of everything - buildings, roads, topography, briefing, CP's, etc. I've got long experience making scenarios for RTS games and such and was a member of Woad Creations for a while (which no one here has heard about, of course hmm ), so I might just be able to pull something off.

I'd post my ideas here, but since any one of them could conceivably become FS maps, I'm reluctant to do so as it'd technically be a breach of NDA.

I miss the BF1942 editor sad ...

Thanks smile ! Looking through the tutorials at the bfeditor site now, trying to figure out which applications to get and where to get them.

Re: Map Suggestions..

Could always do a Mon Calamari map.

Water with floating (static) bases and a few small land masses.  Would need new vehicles and such be made for it, so probly now.

Corellian map could work.   Combined arms with few scattered settlements that need capturing.  Open hilly grasslands with a few water hazards.   Make it a two way push map with one to two paths.  Lamda, Tanks, few fighters in starting bases, AT-ST and plenty of speeders.

Or see the 4 other Tatooine maps I suggested, can never have to much Tatooine wink

Re: Map Suggestions..

I tryed to map, but i couldn't get past the texture part, it said something about that you can't use more then 6 textures for ground or something, but i don't know how to pick one.

Exactly, and a CITY map takes even more time to actually get the map done, all the details of a city must be done. From crates, to cars, to sounds... A city takes a great deal longer to create. Took me near 8 months to finish Bestine, 2-3 of those were jsut laying out the details of the city, crates, booths, garbage.

Please forgive my utter ignorance about these things generally, but I can't help thinking we're talking at cross purposes. The SWBF map I'm referring to is less than a 10th the size of Bestine and comprises a plaza with surrounding walls, walkway corridors and ramps, plus a tunnel system off to one side with a carbon freezing chamber and a ventilation shaft. There are no vehicles at all, no crates and very little other furniture. Yes, I understand that all the elements have to be created, but I'd have imagined that there are far fewer than in Bestine.

I'm not saying that I don't like First Strike's fantastic large scale space and combined arms grand designs, because I do, but infantry-only scenarios are by far my favourites and at present there's only one in FS, Mos Entha.

When you consider the high proportion of IO servers in BF2 and vanilla 2142, not to mention the amazingly popular CoD4 (which has no playable vehicles), you cannot deny that there is a high demand for IO FPS action out there. That seems to me to be as good a reason as any for creating a couple or three small scale IO maps, whether or not I'm right in my assumption that there is less work involved.
