In response to the original post, all the fighters in FS have to be balanced against the other ones.  Not only on the player's team, but on the opponent's team as well due to the fact that this is an online multiplayer game.

If FS were a singleplayer game, all lore would point to one X-Wing being able to handle two or three TIEs, and the ratio of Imperial to Rebel fighters would probably be around 3:1 as well.
