Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

Also, when mapping your keys to the joystick this doesn't screw up your other key sets does it? I'd guess not, I presume because you have different key sets for flight, ground vehicle and infantry? I think I may go out and purchase one today.

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

Correct, and there are actually 2 key settings for each one. So you can keep your KB&Mouse settings along with new joystick configs.

I don't have much experience with joysticks, but from what I have. I would say: Do not just pick a joystick and hope it works, I had a joystick once and half its buttons weren't recognized by BF2, no matter what I did, so I would say get one of the ones these guys above have because they are proven to work with 2142 big_smile

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

I use a cheap Rip of from the Logitech 3D Extreme. Lots of Buttons and a twist handle.

Trigger: Fire, Spot enemys, Use Commo Rose to give orders
Button 2: Fire Secondary Weapon
Button 3: Commo Rose
Button 4: Tactical Rose
Button 5: Vote Yes / Confirm Orders
Button 6: Rotate B-Wing
Button 7-12: Boost, Toggle Secondary Weapon, Squadleader Map, ScoreBoard (to check for squadless players)

To use the Commo Roses, give Orders & spot enemys with the Joystick you must edit your Controls.con.

If you want try it, make first a Safety Copy of your Controls.con !

The Controls.con is a .txt file in your "my documents\BF2142\Profiles\000x\" Folder, you can open it with any .txt editor like notepad.

in the section:
ControlMap.create defaultGameControlMap

is the config for the Commo Rose.

ControlMap.create defaultGameControlMap
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_GIMouseLookX IDFMouse IDAxis_0 0 0
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_GIMouseLookY IDFMouse IDAxis_1 0 0

add those lines direct under the lines with the Mouse settings:

ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_GIMouseLookX IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_0 0 1
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_GIMouseLookY IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_1 1 1

Should look like this:

ControlMap.create defaultGameControlMap
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_GIMouseLookX IDFMouse IDAxis_0 0 0
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_GIMouseLookX IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_0 0 1
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_GIMouseLookY IDFMouse IDAxis_1 0 0
ControlMap.addAxisToAxisMapping c_GIMouseLookY IDFGameController_0 IDAxis_1 1 1

With this settings you can use the joystick to navigate in the commo roses, to select an item you must map your Joysticks trigger to c_CIOk:

Its also in
ControlMap.create defaultGameControlMap

scroll a little deeper until you find the entry:
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_GIOk IDFMouse IDButton_0 0 0

ad direct beyond it this line:
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_GIOk IDFGameController_0 IDButton_0 0 1

so it must look like this:
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_GIOk IDFMouse IDButton_0 0 0
ControlMap.addButtonToTriggerMapping c_GIOk IDFGameController_0 IDButton_0 0 1

You can map more than one function to the same button as long the functions don't collide.
So it's possible to map B-Wing rotation and Boost to the same Button, because a B-Wing has no Boost and the other fighters have no rotation.

It's possible what your Joysticks ID / Axis Buttons have other names than mine. IF you want to Map functions by editing the Controls.con its a good idea to create a new soldier.
Select the soldier, go to the ingame menu for the controls and blank out everything, than select ingame the functions you want to your Joystick an save.
This will give you a lean controls.con where you find the mapped functions quickly. Copy and past them to your "real" Soldiers controls.con.

This fileplanet Thread has more infos about editing the controls.con:

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

Might go with the Saitek Cyborg Evo, just checked out the specs and it looks good, plus they have them in stock at my local Microdirect, so I can just pop out and get one today.

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

When buying a stick, its worthwhile noting where the throttle is located- the Logitech ATK 3 has the throttle just below your wrist when you're holding the stick, making using it impossible unless you have girly pencil arms.

Be aware that the speederbike uses air craft controls, so if your throttle is set to full after a game on Taloraan, and the map changes to endor- the moment you jump on a speeder bike its going to take off smile

I use bikes with my throttle neutralised (no fwd thrust, no reverse thrust) and use WASD to control it.

However, if you see me jump on a bike and slam into a wall/tree/friendly trooper, now you know why smile

Re: The FS Pilots' Lounge

If you don't have a (good) throttle or a twist handle you can also lay the Accelerate / Deccelerate roll funtions on the buttons of you Joystick.
It's somtimes even better to use Keys / Buttons for this functions, because you got a more direct Input / don't move the Joystick accidently then rolling.

If your Joystick has Suction cups or can be mount to the table you can also use Joystick & Keyboard.

Oh, and be aware if you use a Saitek Keyboard / Joystick with other, non Saitek gamecontrollers.
It's possible what a non Saitek Gamecontroller would not found by BF 2142, turning out every other HID in the controlpanel / Hardware will fix this problem.
(Have it once with a Saitek Gamer Keyboard my Joystick, cause is the Saitek Software to map functions to gamecontrollers)

AFIAK BF only detects the gamecontroller 0, this may help all players those joysticks can't be found by BF2142.
