Re: Rhen Var Ice Plains.

After playing this map a little tonight I find there are too many flags to overtake and the map could be made quite a bit smaller IMO (of course we were playing the 64 player version I think). Also the whole round we saw nothing but people spawning their squads on top of the ruin temples. This isnt totally bad and it isnt totally good either...We can decrease the number of speederbikes, make some ramps/ladders to acces the rooftops, or make unrealistic death zones up there (from lesser to desperate). I like that snipers can get up there as it gives more freedom, but its so darn hard to kill them up there and they arent capping flags or working as a team, really.

I thing we need to just tighten the map up a bit on at least the 32 and 64 player variants.

Don't get me wrong. I like the push mode maps (are they a First Strike innovation?)

No.

Actually we developed ours in parallel and totally seperate to those mods.  The impetus to creating them for this mod was laid down in the initial design documentation back in 2006 as part of the overall objective.  FH2 wasn't released till far later and PR had only begun implimenting it themselves at that time if my memory serves me.  In fact I didn't even know FH had push maps till flippy told me a couple weeks ago.  Interestingly the first people I know to have implimented it were the DC crew in BF1942, though they had a very wacky setup with col meshes around the flags.  GC also made an attempt at it (with me at the helm setting that up), with mixed results.  And technically both BF2 and bf2142 both came with a quasi supply lines/pushmap type coding, though it was never actually implimented until the Northern Strike 2142 booster pack.

But the reason for using them is very obvious and very direct: it allows us to focus the full force of all the players into one or two enclosed areas.  This is one of the many tricks we use to make the mod feel like a single massive battleground rather than a hundred tiny skirmishes.  There are up sides and down sides to the method and I'll be the first to admit it's not perfect, but it does accomplish more goals and eliminates more problems than if we went with straight conquest, so we're happy for it.

Ice Plains 32p and 64p have been shrunk.  32p is now the same as 16p though with more vehicles.  64p is now the same as 32p but with more vehicles.  64p with 3 routes no longer exists.

Re: Rhen Var Ice Plains.

I'm pretty sure FH for bf1942 had push maps, I never played it though.

Re: Rhen Var Ice Plains.

I played FH a fair bit, and I'm 99% sure they had Push Maps. Push Maps, and a restriction on some CP's that made them cappable only when more than one player was in the cap zone (some flags you had to be two to cap, others three, I even think there were a couple CP's you had to be four to cap).

Re: Rhen Var Ice Plains.

I wonder if this ever happens in a real war. You get dropped in a location and you just take one look around, and your first thought isn't the usual, "I hope I don't get shot." and more like, "MY hamsters...HOW LONG WERE WE GOING TO BE HERE AGAIN!?" and you're just walking around, completely bored on the battlefield.

If you've watched Das Boot, S-Guy, U-boat warfare in the Atlantic was pretty much exactly like that smile .If anything fit the "99% boredom and 1% sheer terror" line, it's the Battle of the Atlantic.
