Re: 1.3 CLIENT IS OUT!

Someone tell ( yell ) micro-schaft that if it aint broke, dont fix it !

Next year we will have vistas replacement ...
Requires 8 GB RAm to boot up,  1024 mb graphics card to play pacman , 2048mb graphics card to play Doom II ,  and forget about playing anything new , period .

Hows that for advances ?

How many of you know that your video card memory is also taken into account as part of your OS total memory?

Actually, if you use XP 64 it will recognize up to 4 Gigs (maybe even 8, I can't recall exactly) but XP 64 has a lot of downsides compared to XP 32.  Also, I've found a lot of PC users, Vista or XP, don't even realize they have wasted RAM in there anyways, so I wouldn't consider it a big negative. (Not that you were saying it was)

Dual boot is a good idea, though, for a lot of people.  I think personally I'd end up using XP and never touching Vista though, can really do everything I need on XP.

XP 64 like vista 64 will recognise 16 gig of ram

I think that's only if you have an on-board graphics card (and haven't disabled it)

Re: 1.3 CLIENT IS OUT!

No as far as i'm aware  Xp or vista 32 has a max memory allocation of 4Gb and within this you must include plugin graphics adapters. So if you've got 4Gb of memory and, say 8800gtx 760Mb graphics card, in reality you may as well have just put 3Gb of memory in. Nothing above the 4Gb limitation is used by the OS

Re: 1.3 CLIENT IS OUT!

My xeon machine is the same way . Ive got 4 gb RAM and it gobbles part of that up and is lost in the memory count .  ( XP 32 )
