I'd be more careful with those dubious tips...

Its everybody's choice to keep it off or on, but please dont recommend sacrificing basic safety precautions to everybody in here. Many of those prolly dont even know what UAC is or what it does.
Yeah, its a pain -  but it wasnt made for annoyance or generating more mouse-clicks only.

Anyone who spends all day surfing scam deserves everything they get smile UAC is an awful, intrusive, annoying program that does nothing a good anti virus, malware or spyware program can't happily sort should, and its unlikely, you get a problem. I've had UAC turned off from day one with vista with no problems at all.

I've never had it on, it was more of a nuisance than anything else.  But if anyone knows of some good free antivirus software...

Indeed. I turned off UAC right away too. I've got Avast, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-aware, Winpatrol and spywareblaster to keep away the malware. I never find anything in the scans. I recommend all of them.
