Just going over some of the old posts at the Totally Games forum and in particular a very long one regarding reviving the X-Wing series. Heres some posts from Albert Mack, one of the original team devs:
"Some of the original team is still around, though most of them have moved on to other companies or out of the games industry altogether. However, Larry Holland is still here and that's the important part, since he's the vision behind the series. Of the people that worked on any of the Star Wars games, only Larry, Robin, myself, and Kevin remain.
I'd love to work on another Star Wars space sim if the opportunity presented itself. But that is not for us to decide, unfortunately. The game market for space sims have dried up and with it the money."
"As a fan of those games myself, man I really wish we could do another one as well. I played XvT hardcore for 6 months, going home after work and playing online til the wee hours of the night. I was on the ladders, joined squadrons, chatted on the zone, and did all those other fun things. Those were good times:)
Never did reveal my identity online, which I feel a little guilty about since I was a dev and had a leg up on the competition. Funny thing is, even from the very beginning there were people I couldn't beat in a melee. My login was Ifurita, from the El Hazard anime, and was for a time a member of the Phantom Squadron. My favorite craft was the Z-95.
It's good to hear that there are still so many passionate fans of the series after all these years. I'll keep pushing for a sequel, you guys keep up the good work on the mods and commuity boards."
And in the 'I want a new X-Wing game to feature..@ thread, this little snippet:
"never say never...you never know..."
With another developer adding these two comments:
"Seriously Albert, that's just wrong! I just shook my head when I first saw this.
I can just see you sitting there at your desk with a big grin spread across your face as you hit that submit button."
"I meant wrong as in "diabolically evil" not wrong as in "incorrect". I have no official word on the future of the X-Wing series, I'm just a lowly designer after all "
Maybe bluffs and smoke, but those are from 2008, so who knows...maybe it's related to LA's newest announcement, or perhaps Totally Games are pushing to revive X-Wing off their own backs, or at least a game in the same thread that could be 'modded' by a community to feature star wars ships
Either way, I like that the TG devs do try to make an effort to answer the fans and show some interest in continuing the series if they can ever get the license.
Bite my shiny metal Tie Fighter!
