Re: Join Planning for future First Strike Campaign

Oh? Well yeah, that is pretty pointless. There are no commander assets used within First Strike, so any player playing as commander doesn't give his team any real benefit by doing so, other than being able to co-ordinate between various squads under his command, but this can easily be done via Teamspeak or Ventrilo by setting up squad and command com channels.

This then means that the player who is in command can effectively lead his team, but also get in on the action when the opportunity arises, also the Officer kit allows him to support his troops in the field in a similar way to the Command assets. Extra firepower support in the form of the stationary blasters, additional logistics support in the form of ammo and medical supplies, and intelligence support in the form of sensor sweeps.

Re: Join Planning for future First Strike Campaign

Didn't think you could deploy the blaster as commander (since you have no squad mates).

It's exactly the reason why I haven't signed to do it myself. Commander is pointless in First Strike. No benefit and it means you can't get the extra support of having squad mates. Essentially you are a lone wolf that spams orders and annoys the rest of your team mates while providing no supporting role.

Re: Join Planning for future First Strike Campaign

I'm HQ of the Rebel side. I'm helping plan the strategies and then I'm jumping in a squad as a member, letting my SL's do their job.
I'll maintain contact with and guide the SL's through Xfire chat and let the SL's talk to their units through ingame chat.

Meanwhile I'll be firing rockets at things that need blowing up and putting blaster bolts into white chestplates and helmets.

There are some larger maps like Jundland which may benefit from commander's eye view but most of the time what is really needed is another body in the capzone or a sniper round through a critical enemy's head.

If anyone has a real problem with a Commander of the Rebel SpecForces leading from the field I refer you to Star Wars episodes 1-6

Re: Join Planning for future First Strike Campaign

That is what I'm saying, that rather than go Commander the person in command should go in as a Squad leader as with a squad and an Officer kit that gives him the First Strike equivalent of command assets that you would get if you were playing as Commander in BF2142.

Re: Join Planning for future First Strike Campaign

In tournaments, being in charge of an army does not necessary entail being a commander. Actually, it is preferable to give orders on an officer channel on team-speak since there is increased communication between all officers.

Re: Join Planning for future First Strike Campaign

Well Buddy, seems everyone has been under the impression from your site that the team leader would have to play as commander and not be able to join a squad as a grunt on the ground.

Re: Join Planning for future First Strike Campaign

I seem to be a little bit confused.

The website that we keep being redirected to in order to sign up for the campaign is only half complete, and I don't see any information about First Strike at all.

Where do we go to actually sign up for this?
