I think the issue is that it is too difficult to get the server the same version as the client. The updater made sense when we still had an active dev team, but since not everyone can get the updater to work, I think the best solution is to create a new installer for the client and a new sever version. The server comes with an updater but that may cause more harm and confusion. I just need some help with testing the server version before I release it. I plan to put together a new client installer this weekend. The other source of confusion is that we have a version and a build number. If using the updater, the most current building is 1023. Some are still having issues with the updater. So, I need to update to the next version number for both client and server to version 1.61 so it is clear what the version is supposed to be and there is no need for the updater at this time.
Once we get the client and server consistent so that everyone is using the same version then we can re-evaluate using the updater for future mod updates if there is enough interest to continue.
I used to dealing with offline content. With Twigs being busy, I am trying to do what I can. I have a buddy that has a server that we can use to test with, but he only has experience with BF2 servers. So if anyone has some time this weekend and can help with getting the server up and running so we can test it out, that would be awesome!
