Topic: Capital Ship Movement

I've heard alot of talk in a whole load of different mods about large ship movement. Its pretty clear that player controlled large ships are no longer an option, at least thats the note I've picked up. Now I think that here in a ancient dev diary it was mentioned that large capital ships may have scripted courses, where they move on their own accord in a preproggrammed loopy thing. That sort of thing sounds like a good alternative to static ships. Is it possible? I know that currently mods like Bf pirates are talking about their large pirate ships might have to be simply static, at least for the first few releases. Where does the FS team stand on this whole thing now? Is it possible for a large ship to move if its not player guided? And why is that a problem in the first place? hmm

Re: Capital Ship Movement

The BF1942 engine was a moderatly good one.
The BF2 engine, along with many other new EA games today, SUCK.

It's a fact. I can play games with MUCH better graphics. They look like BF2 on max with my 6600GT...

But yes, I hope some day we can move larger ships.

Re: Capital Ship Movement

yes to my knowledge it is possible to have scripted ship movement (atleast that was the case in 1942 and BFV)

Re: Capital Ship Movement

Well when you have a 1600 meter long star destroyer on a map that's about 2048 meters by 2048 meters, there really isn't anywhere for it to go. Even if we did make them move it'll most likely be impossible to walk on the interior while it's moving. This fact makes both the scripted movement and the player controlled movement not likely to happen.

There's alot of testing to be done but on vehicles like the Imperial Star Destroyer, it's just not gonna happen. There's no map really big enough to make it move on a set course or anywhere at all. The ISD is a map in itself anyways so I think once everybody sees this thing and is inside it, they'll be just fine with it being a static.

There's more advantages to having a static ISD. We can add destroyable objects on the ship for objectives and gameplay improvements. No matter the outcome, I'm sure everybody will be very happy with the final decisions.
