Topic: Actual Airsupport

Well I love Bf2, but one major grievence of mine is that cooperation between air elements and ground units is virtually unexistent. When a fighter jockey does decide to drop his bombs, he usually simply looks for the nearest target, instead of the best. But I have a suggestion to break that tendacy. In Bf2 if you kill someone close to your flag, you get extra pionts for defending it. Why not do something similar to that? For instance, give squad leaders the ability to call in 'airsupport'. This would entail making a zone around the target area (where he was pionting when he clicked it). Whenever an enemy unit inside of that zone is killed by a aircraft launched weapon the pilot gets triple pionts (or something similar). This gives pilots alot of insentive to come to the aid of ground troops, and they'll also know exactly where the enemy units are (in the zone). However to stop zones from poppng up everywhere, only 2 or three sould be aloud to be active at once. If two are already active, and a squadleader trys to  call one in, they could get a verbal alert that airsupport is currently tied up. Also the zones should probally only be active for about a minute. If the battle goes over, they can always call in another. I think it would make tings more realistic. And also alot more fun for infantry men, knowing that heavy duty help is only a radio call away. It probally shouldn't been given to commanders however, as it wll the guys on the ground who know where its really needed. I think something like this would really rock in FS, since the fighters are mostly gunna be laser based, strafe attacks would look really neat to the tiny groundlings.

Re: Actual Airsupport

Good idea. This is definately something we should look into.

Re: Actual Airsupport

This is one of the reasons why I love the points system so much in BF2, you can use it to help encourage teamwork in so many ways.  I love this idea, and I think it is pretty original.  I think the area for the points for the airstrike should be fairly large, or if it is an armor unit, the airstrike area would move with the unit.  In other words, if a squadleader had his crosshair over a tank (or maybe even an enemy bomber?) when he calls for airsupport, the enemy's icon would appear on the minimap so the pilots could find the unit, and the pilot would recieve extra points if he destroyed the unit within a certain amount of time.

The squad leaders would be psuedo Forward Air Controllers, very cool.

It might be a good idea to give this ability to everyone though, at least for spotting armor and bombers for air support to destroy, but maybe the air support "area" could be reserved for squad leaders.
