Topic: Lock on Lasers.

So yesterday I watched SW ep. 4

When they are flying down the trench and Vader and his crew come up behind them you can see there computer screens targeting the X-wings. Could this be put into First Strike? The X-wings have this computer too, as well as the Falcon. I do not know about regular TIEs or Y-wings because it never shows there computers. But Vaders TIE, X-wings, and the Falcon have targeting systems. So I was thinknig what if those ships had the same capabilities in the game? It would be pretty neat I think. Just leave the other ships with normal fire or let them have it too... But I don't know if they have that sort of computing systems because they always miss in the movies lol.

I do not know how this would work because the missiles in BF2 follow for a long time, Maybe make the lasers shoot stright at the craft but not follow? I don't know how to make it work. But I bet it could be done realistically in a SW POV.

Re: Lock on Lasers.

Nice idea,  I think it could be done.... with this new engine there will be many more possibilities.  Only problem I can see happening is the lasers not being rapid... and there might be some cheapness in gameplay if that were in... still nice idea!

Re: Lock on Lasers.

I guess it could be done with making the lasers heat seaking projectiles with terrible seeking ability.... but auto-aiming aircraft just screams gameplay killer to me.

Re: Lock on Lasers.

I would think that it could be done, but it would seem to take away the fun in my opinion, although I do think the idea is neat and it's great in the movies!

Re: Lock on Lasers.

It could be a ten+ second lock time before the lasers lock like it was in the movie. Then unless the guy is flying in a straight line it would be very hard to get a lock. Until then the lasers would just fire straight in the crosshairs. Then it would also give you a tone when an enemy comes in your targeting reticule like it does in many star wars books. This way it would only be cheap in noob vs noob dogfights, but an expert would shoot you down in the time it takes to get a lock anyway if you dont move out of the way. In the X-wing series starfighters get a laser lock warning if someone is behind them so that would be a defensive advantage too. There just needs to be a smaller box inside the hud that the target has to stay in to keep the lasers locked like there is on the laser guided missiles to give the defender a chance.

Re: Lock on Lasers.

Yea. It would be waay to over powered if it were a 5 sec lock like in BF2. Mr. Wookiee got what I was thinking pretty well. Would be cool if you could put those little screens in the cockpits. It would probably be impossible to make it work with the lock but it would be neat to see in the cockpit.
