Topic: Authentic Feel

I know it has already been stated you guys are reaching for a good authentic feel for First Strike, but none-the-less I would like to have my say. I don't think I could have any more possible faith in this mod.

As much as I loved GC, there was always one thing it lacked for me (in a way). While it was authentic simply because of the fantastic maps, vehicles, characters, weapons, etc. that all immersed me into the origonal Star Wars triolgy, it wasn't quite up to par from a gameplay perspective. Don't get me wrong, I loved the gameplay. But like I said it wasn't wuite enough when it came to representing the movies.

I'll use the all famous map of Hoth for example. While this map was purely cool in GC for it being in the movies, it didn't quite play out the same, at least not in conquest mode. It is meant to be a large assault on the Rebel base, but not in conquest mode its not. With conquest, it still played out as if there was no specific target. Imperials would capture the shield generator, rebels would cap back. Imperials capture the Rebel base, but that didn't make any difference as long as the Rebels still had enough other outposts. They could even go out and capture the fallen AT-AT after the Imperials had. Imperials can destroy the shield generator and capture it but Rebels could always just get it back. I could go on and on but I will leave it at that.

No way is that how it should be played. That was always an immersion killer for me and ruined much of the expirience. I am just using that map as an example, and I am hoping many of the FS maps will play out in a more authentic manner reflecting that of the movies. Could be done in more than one way I know, I am just hoping this is what the FS team is aiming for.

On a sidenote, glad to hear the GC team has joined the FS team. Who knows what amazing things could happen now. smile I will be buying 2142 purely for this mod.

Make it like a pushmap from FH so that once the shield generator is gone, its gone.

Yeah Hoth was great and I loved it when the imps would use a tie and land inside echo and shoot through the walls hmm

And who could forget the one guy to come along and start flying the falcon when it was the only spawn point left, ahh the memories.

Well, Hoth was made way before any other types of maps were created, and seeing as we (the GC team) were pretty much all beginners in modding for bf1942, we saw thatway of mapping as the only way. It wasnt until a good few months later people started  uncovering new ways of making maps fun to play. I'd say by that time the GC team were far too caught up in creating the new content to go back and change it smile

At least with the experience gained within the mod team from GC, and the fantastic talent of the coders they alreahd had onboard AND The abilities of the new Battlefield game, i can assure you First Strike will be THE fantastic gamiong experience your looking for smile

BTW First Strike team, can i get the title of official mod Pimp ? big_smile

Yeah hot went through a lot of changers like The shield gen being destroyable the trench being moved. A Complete refit of Echo base. There was even an outpost base on the first version i player (top left part of the map). Yes it would be cool if they could make hoth a kinda push map it will probably make people defend the map better as i found in the GC version not a lot of people defended the trench untill later on

As for authenticity, if you ask me (no one has yet...) its the second most important thing in a mod (besides gameplay). Especially for a mod following original movies. I completely agree with solo on this. How the maps play, as well as how the mood is set (with static objects, weather, and maybe ingame music) either pull you in or toss ya out. GC had great loading screens and loading music that really got you excited to fight the impending battle. But sometimes the way the map functioned kinda ruined that once the battle started.
And as always I still say ingame music would be awsome and great for immersion, though I think some dev said it wasn't likely.

I wouldnt mind ingame music when in certain vehicles. Might be a problem with ground battles though, could possibly drown out your ability to hear people sneaking up on you ect.
