Topic: How is this Different from Battlefront?

Hi,

I'm new to this mod.  Heard about it over at POE for BF2 IRC channel.  I looked around the site some and like your renders so far, but my big question, being a mod user and FPS player: How is this different from Battlefront?

What will set you apart from that game?  How are you able to render items that are so similar to Lucas stuff?  I'm excited at the chance to be a part of the Star Wars universe extension, and trufully not impressed with Battlefront that much.  I just hope this has a better feel and a more classic focus than Battlefront.

I figure someone will say, "Man, it won't be anything like that poor excuse for a SW game", but I'm hoping you will also say why.

Hello Freelancer.

I'm a Battlefront 1 and 2 player. I still run around on servers almost every night. So I know what battlefront is like. Not the game we so dearly hoped for. Plus the fact that LA did not support it in any way. I.E. patches and added content.

Even the ships and units were not correct. Clone interceptors were made bombers and TIEs had missiles.

Inaccurate.

Now this mod is made by SW fans. And they don't have a deadline for a DVD to meet. And from the looks of it sofar, it's going to be as accurate as Star Wars you ever be able to find.

Plus BF2 and BF2142 are great games by themselves. Good graphics and great squad systems.

There for this MOD is the life long dream of many a Star Wars fan. A combination of BF2142's great gameplay plus the authentic feel of Star Wars. And I suggest you try to get a hold of it as soon as it's out.

I should probably wait for xERO (our PR head honcho official statement type o' guy), but as a dev I will attempt to answer your question, so here goes:

The biggest thing IMO that will set us appart from Battlefront 1 and 2, and virtually every other "official" SW game, is our attention to authenticity.  We as a team are working so hard to make every bit of our mod "authentic" to official SW lore, and especially to the movies.  For every model that I make, I spend most of my research time looking at pics of the models that lucas used in the movies, and researching the movies themselves (ep. 4-6).  You don't realize how many discussions we have every day about how accurate our maps are, or whether there should be another tiny bump in the Stormtroopers armor (I'm not joking), or what shade of dark grey our E-Web should be to accurately represent the one in the movie.

We are working hard to satisfy even the most hardcore star wars nerd, and in doing that, I think this mod will roxors your soxors smile

Of course there are other things, and for those types of things I will allow xERO to carry on.  Thank you for your time.

also concider how BF and SWBF play differently? imo BF series is alot better! never even brought SWBF2.

REDMONKEYs basically summed it up in ATTD (ATTENTION TO DETAIL) all our Team is Star Wars mad, crazy, dedicated, passionate, fill in your choice of word attributed to liking SW here and we are it. We have a very solid team who meticulously look at every angle, reference, picture or video to making the smallest model look good enough to warrant being in the Universe that is Star Wars.

Gameplay will be more focused around the Team, it isnt as rushed as SWBF series its more of a thinking mans fight. You need to accomplish goals by ways of working as a Team. You dont have a firefight every 5 seconds if you so dont wish to, then again if you do you can spawn and get stuck straight to the action. Its about choices and dependant on your kit, player class and the map objectives you hold your own destiny as to what and where to go.
Be a Sniper lay low, or a Bothan and sabotage, an Assault up front and working on the front lines, a Wookie engineering and helping the team or unleashing a melee against incoming Imps.
The pace is set by you. Enjoy it as you see fit.

Besides attention to detail (certaintly one of the greatest factors, how do you get drawn into a battle when you know the weapons your using aren't right) I think the thing that will make this mod is the battlefield engine. Seriously, you either love it or hate it, and I absolutely love it. The only word I got for it is 'feel'. Everything just feels good in battlefield, and I believe that feel intergraded into star wars will kick pie. All the more so becuase this team is so very talented. They are making the star wars world as it was in star wars, not some greasy, oddly rendered marketing ploy like battlefront.
