I'd like to see a level where the Imperials start out in an ISD docking bay and have to pilot those Imperial stormtrooper transports over to a neutral freighter to inspect it as the premise.

Of course, the freighter is full of Rebels and an awesome battle ensues.  There is the possability of many set pieces within the freighter.  The cargo holds can be filled with many volatile containers of ammunition, catwalks, there can be thin, crowded hallways, a bridge, etc.  Hell, throw in a trash compactor compartment as the only route between two crucial points, and give it two animated walls that close at regular intervals and eventually kill players.

called the Imperial Lander or The Imperial Sentinal-class shuttle transport

Nah that thing couldn't transport jack (or anything significant).  It could carry a hold of stormtroopers but not parts of a battlestation or large ship components.  Hence the bulk freighter.

Also if you were thinking about level design, the lander is too small a craft to base a map on.  There was one in Galactic Conquest, if you recall.

Re: 'Boarding a cargo freighter' level

If you're not using the lander, you don't want the stormtrooper transport. That just looks like a van. You want the assault transport.

Re: 'Boarding a cargo freighter' level

I believe Dragunov was probably refering to the Storm Trooper Transport (STT) vs. the Sentinel Class, not the bulk freighter.  (@ Dragunov) While I realize that the Sentinel Class Shuttle is more "lore accurate" (having actually been shown in the movies), the STT is used extensively throughout the X-Wing/TIE Fighter series as the primary method of boarding enemy vessels.  I think the Sentinel was probably designed more as a space-to-ground action transport, while the STT was designed more as an assault transport meant for space boarding action.  I think the STT would be more appropriate in the role posed for this map.  Also seen in X-Wing games post TIE Fighter is the Assault Shuttle, similar to the STT, but with much better shielding and much heavier firepower.

I like your basic premise and map design ideas Canadiens, but when I think of nearly 32 to 64 players together at the same time in a space as small as a bulk freighter (they certainly aren't any bigger than BF2142's titans), all I can think of is LAAAAAA...AA.....A...AAAA..GGG.G.....GGGG.

I would propose, both to make the map more interesting and lessy laggy, that the map would include two or three bulk freighters that need to be captured.  This would space out the action, and make the map more exciting.  As a rebel, you would have to decide which freighter needs the most help and spawn accordingly.  As an imperial, you would have to decide which freighter you want to board with.  Whoever models the bulk freighter could possibly add more than one hatch/point of access for the boarding craft such that more than one transport could assault at one time.

Awhile ago I was tossing around an idea similar to this in which imperials would have to board a rebel Nebulon B Frigate.  In the X-Wing games, the transports/shuttles always docked on the back end of the ship instead of the hangar.  Maybe we could make it like Titan mode where once the sheild is down, you would be able to board from the rear access hatch, but if the hangar shield (similar to the permanent flight deck shield on the titans) could be destroyed seperately (possibly from the inside), then imperials would also be able to fly transports directly into the hangar.

I think that would be a great premise for a boarding map. The Nebulon could be holding important documents on rebel movement throughout the sector, and the Imperials would need to obtain secure the ship to be able to download the contents or some such.

Re: 'Boarding a cargo freighter' level

Sentinal Class Transport:

"in its usual configuration, it could carry approximately six stormtrooper squads or 54 stormtroopers, 12 E-Web repeating blasters and 6 74-Z Speeder bikes. When its seats were removed and it was converted to carrying supplies, it could carry 36 74-Z speeder bikes or 12 compact assault vehicles like AT-STs and AT-PTs. Its total cargo capacity was 180 metric tonnes."

I think thats easily enough for a boarding party transport

so my ship is also a cargo ship smile

Re: 'Boarding a cargo freighter' level

Kinda ..but theres no way you could have on board fighting in it along the lines of the freighter map idea.
