Topic: Are ships going to have sheilds? like they did in Tie fighter games?

ALso have a lot of you Dev team guys played th Tie fighter series of games?
they are THEST BEST STAR WARS SIMULATION GAMES EVER!
even better then GC for flight simmyness.

in Tie fighter and the X wing games that went with it you could switch deflector sheilds to doubble front and take all power from weapons and rout it to the engines to go 140% of normal top speed.

things like normal Ties died in 1 or 2 hits because they dont have ANY SHEILDS!

and in fleet combat in tie fighter you could take out just the engines on a capital ship or kill 1 turret at a time untill a ship had none left.

are any of these things planned for FS?  i mean they(the people who worked on tie fighter) did all of them 11 years ago in a game made for 486's with 1 meg of system ram.

i would think it could be pulled off easy seeing as BF 2142 allready has sheild technology.

i would also say that evreybody on the FS Dev team should WATCH all the 70' and 80's star wars movies again and play the tie fighter games and the great star wars mod for bf 1942 GC Galactic Conquest.

it would be a really good idea to play some of the bst star wars sims ever and see what you guys like about them and dont like. or what you feel needs to be added.

come on EA RELEASE THE TOOLS!

i think FS has a good future ahead since its got a lot of work done on it before the game its ment for has even shipped!   even GC didnt get started untill bf1942 was out for 2 years.

wee i hope to have many great adventures in your star wars game and get together with old freinds and make NEW ENEMIES!  and then promtly kill them!

I honestly don't know where to start for a reply....except read the forums...this game will be better then the x-wing series.

? He's raised a couple very good questions. Now I keep hearing the devs say that 2142 has a fancy new vehicle animation system, that allows them to have vehicles do pretty much whatever they want. Things like having a button assigned for putting down gear and picking it up, right? Well dosn't that create HUGE possibilities to bring the starfighters in FS into a very simy state?
Like, wouldn't it be possible to adjust shield power and position? And maybe engine and laser power as well? Though that of course raises the question, do you want to make it simish or more traditional bf style combat, which isn't such a bad thing either.

Definately sim. That was the best bit of the X-Wing series. Sim fighter management, yet arcadey combat.

Maybe different maps have different styles? I would like to be able to make ship-boarding by making powerful turrets. Perhaps turbolasers and under powered auto-turrets. Also, they need to make shields more of an issue. I don't like what they did in SWBF 2 with the shields, only capital ships possesed shields.

yep x-wing alliance was the 3rd pc game i ever played on, and i loved it from the start.
also bluetang, it is impossible to be better than the x-wing vs tie fighter games. as there a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GENRE TO FS. FS = first person shooter. X-wing vs tie fighter = flight simulator jeesh.
