No. No. No.   The point is to have them spread out for the best effect.

That is true, that would have the best affect.  But you're not looking for the best affect, you're looking for the best balance.  lol

Umm no, not really...

The lasers being spread out more would give higher percent of hits. No one can pin-point head off an X-wing with turbolasers.

Re: Multiple turret control

Turbolasers in Star Wars always reminded me of flak cannons in WWII.

If you're going up against a big Mon Cal cruiser in a TIE Bomber, chances are you won't see the turret that kills you firing at you.  It's a 'strength in numbers' kinda thing where even if cap ship gunners are firing off into space they might score a glancing hit on a fighter caught flying too low.

So, I'm all for large banks of turbolasers on capital ships.

Does anyone remember the Star Destroyer vs. Mon Calamari cruiser maps from X-Wing?  The neat thing was seeing the big battleships open up on each other with the six or seven batteries and having long strands of red and green cannon fire stretching out across space, mingling in with the clouds of fighters.

Re: Multiple turret control

Never played X-Wing, but my recollection from Tie Fighter (the sequel) was that if a ship wasn't firing at you could fly through the turbolaser cloud pretty safely with a bit of jinking. If the ship was firing at you - you had to spend all your effort dodging the fire, and had little chance of doing anything else. Any attempt to attack the capship itself or fly level would result in damage.

I kinda know what you mean... I think.

In Episode 1,2,3 the lasers in some of the capitol ships and fighters explode like flak I BELEIVE.

But in 4,5,6 the wiz by normally. You can see it alot in the space battle at the beginning of Ep. 3

Re: Multiple turret control

Flak is probably very difficult to code anyway. I think lasers are more accurate.

Now, what about the speed of the lasers? Despite being called turbolasers, they were quite slow in the X-Wing series. I think they were relatively fast in the films.

Re: Multiple turret control

Yea they are REALLY fast.... took them like 4 seconds to fire at the little ship that was leaving  tatooine (sp?)  in Phantom Menace.
