Topic: Locked or unlocked vehicles - and "vehicle classes"

Is FS going to have locked vehicles, or is everything operable by both sides?

Personally, I vote a big fat yes to make most vehicles locked. Simplistic craft such as speeder bikes, landspeeders and so on should be operable by both sides, but tanks, AT-ATs, X-Wings and certain cannon and droids should be 100% locked. I highly doubt Rebel pilots are trained to operate TIE Fighters or heavy turbo laser towers, and I likewise doubt Imperial pilots spend too much time in A-Wings.

It'd also allow the developers to make maps more diverse, by having certain maps where one side is comprised of special forces trained to use the enemy's equipment, or where

Also, I'd actually like it if only specialized classes were allowed to use advanced vehicles. I'd like for there to be at least one Pilot class, like in Forgotten Hope, and to have the Pilot class fly starfighters. Likewise, I'd like to see a Tanker class for the tanks, AT-ATs, and other advanced ground vehicles.

Disclaimer thingie: I did a search for "Locked Vehicles" and found nothing.

Most Rebel pilots had their training on the Imp acedemy before turning over, and besides I don't think most vehicles even have locks since they are usually in secure bases..

"Most" pilots? I never heard of a single one. The closest you get is Luke, who went to an academy which, seeing his best buddy was a Rebel and he very obviously didn't think too highly of the Empire (note his reaction when he sees the busted Sandcrawler and realizes that the Imperials are coming over to his home) very likely was not the Imperial Academy (I can just picture Biggs wishing Luke a good career as an Imperial TIE Fighter pilot).

And I'm not talking about real locks, I'm talking about using vehicle locking to simulate that Imperials, say, can't just take off with a captured X-Wing.

Han Solo was an Imp, as was Kyle Katarn. Numerous examples, and I think Biggs was one too.

Chewbacca got the hang of the ATST pretty quickly wink

Which is why I excluded it from the list. Not that he mightn't have experience from elsewhere.

Locked all the way. Stealing vehicles is just dumb.
