Topic: Limiting class abilities in the interest of teamplay

One of the thigns that always annoyed me about the BF2 and 2142 is that any class could do anything, such as snipers driving tanks and capturing bases, or supports flying.

So my question is, is it possible to limit abilities, such as only assault can neutralize bases, or only engineers can drive tanks?

The problem with this is you will find that instead people will only select i.e a pilot class as they can only fly planes so you don't really get a good all round team i.e you will probably have something like 25 pilots in a map with probably 5 assualt and 2 snipers. Also i don't think its a good idea to limt the number of players that can play the class as then you will probably have 5 players being a pilot but probably won't be good at it and theres nothing you can do to stop them being a pilot. Back to your question is it possible or not im not sure

I believe this would be possible through some very serious python coding, but there is no straight forward way to do it to my understanding.. And it would be a pretty huge limit in the gameplay.. After all, the fun factor in the bf series is all about freedom.

I think it's a great idea, and I advocated it in the "Locked Vehicles" thread. There could be a Pilot class with only a pistol and a vibro-blade, and a Tanker class with a pistol, vibro-blade, repair kit and/or binoculars.

Depends entirely on the class. A pilot kit with only a blaster and a vibro-blade? Fat chance you'll have the whole team run around with it when there are other good combat kits out there.

After all, the fun factor in the bf series is all about freedom.

I happen to be one of those who prefer Forgotten Hope style organized, teamwork-filled games over the arcadeish "fun factor" any day, but that's just me.

Surely nothing as crazy as a rebel trooper insta-morphing into an astromech droid upon climbing into the R2 slot of an X-Wing or Y-Wing tongue ?
