Topic: How long will wrecks stay before self-destructing?

How long will wrecks stay on the battlefield in Battlefield 2142? In Project Reality, they stayed for several minutes, which greatly added to game-play without causing nearly the amount of lag one would expect.

As a "side question", how many "scars of war" will there be in the FS maps? GC's maps always looked so "perfect", with few wrecks, ruins or craters whatsoever.

well frankly i never liked PR because reality in a first person shooter can just go so far. and they crost that line by miles.

but the time wrecks take in bf2 is to short i give you that.
but whole minutes? no thanks.

I suppose we'll have to agree to differ on that one. Some of us love realism (I do) and some love simplicity. Fair either way.

Because? To me it was an awesome feature.

Yes it was, if you got destroyed on a bridge you would block the bridge off it was awaesome. You can effectively ambush convoys by destroying key vehicles (front and back) I would love to see that in FS

Re: How long will wrecks stay before self-destructing?

I think things like Fighters (especially on a space map) should spawn fairly quickly.  However, ships like the Falcon should take a long while to respawn.  The stronger the vehicle, essentially, the logner it should take to respawn.  And yes, I know I spelt longer wrong, but I'm too lazy to go back and change it <.<

It does add a LOT to gameplay when vehicles take a while to respawn.  Regardless if you LIKE it or not, Marcus, you can't escape the fact that a long respawn actually REWARDS someone for destroying a vehicle, not just like shooting another soldier on the battlefield.

Re: How long will wrecks stay before self-destructing?

I actually seem to recall that a vehicle can re-spawn without its wreck going away? Or am I way off?

And yes, TY2D2, it's truly awesome. I worked on a mini-mod for Vanilla BF2 that'd make every wreck stay for as long as possible (I set the value to 9999), but it was sadly never finished. But I played it on Co-Op a lot and boy, was it (subtlety off tongue ) one great mod. As you said, if a tank battle lasted for long enough, the roads would be blocked by tank wrecks, forcing you to detour or simply abandon the attempt at getting through there with vehicles. I even upped the hit points of tank wrecks so they'd be near-impossible to blow up.

As for re-spawn times, they should be long for both infantry and vehicles, though of course that'll be up to the server admins (right?). I hate assaulting a control point and seeing enemies pop out of nowhere every other second. It makes it near-impossible to take a control point if it's the last one the enemy has. Furthermore, it rewards killing someone and gives you a darned good reason to stay alive. In fact, my perfect idea of a server (to the great irritation of whoever I play with when I host LAN servers big_smile ) is one where the re-spawn delay is a full 30 seconds.

Re: How long will wrecks stay before self-destructing?

Permanent wrecks sounds very good. Thats a step to creating a dynamic battlefield (which they're trying to achieve in Battlefield BC.
