Re: How long will wrecks stay before self-destructing?

I agree one hundred with keeping wrecks permanent!! I don't like to see disappearing debris. And I do believe you can make structures destructible. I'm not sure how they did it, but PR managed to.

Re: How long will wrecks stay before self-destructing?

PR did it, yes, very likely simply by making them dynamic objects. You could, technically speaking, easily do this all the way back to Battlefield 1942, but the problem is that it causes lag. So in Battlefield 1942 it's utterly impossible due to extreme lag. I suppose it's possible with Battlefield 2 as PR has done it, though I can't imagine it for bigger maps.

But yes, for smaller maps it'd be really interesting. It's supposed to be a great feature.

Yea, destroyable buildings are cool, and I see the "coolness" of what Talon is saying there, you could potentially make a certain building block off access to another point, which would be very useful for a map with defenders. They could blow something up and block a road that they have lost control of.

*IDEA*
I assume making too many destroyable buildings would cause a lot of lag, but making only certain parts would probably cause less, am I right? What I mean is can you make the tops of sniper towers destroyable? Rendering the tower useless.

Another thing I mentioned back in the SF mod was with large buildings it would be really sweet if there were cracks in the buildings that could be blown up creating a doorway into it. Probable wouldn't be too hard too, all you have to do is cut a hole in the original model and plug in a destroyable thing in its place big_smile

And hopefully we will see the return of destructable bridges in FS. But please make them much more powerful...

One thing I feel "obligatory" in space maps is space stations with air locks that can be blasted for boarders to enter the ship. As for how all the air will rush out once it's destroyed.. er, never mind that.

Could just add an air sweeping animation, and kill everyone in that radius, I guess...

Remember the destroyable panels in BF2's fences? That's certainly possible.

I don't want boarding in space maps... if you want infantry, play an infantry map.
Externally destroying things is just so much funner! It also looks retarded when people shoot a hole into an enemy cap ship and abandon their extremely freaking expensive fighter just to jump into it.
