Topic: Boarding capships. Yes or No?

Well, the main reason why I'm looking forward to FS is the space maps. Flying TIEs,  A-Wings, capships, it just has "awesome" written all over it.

I usually play pilot or medic, and I prefer the pilot role. I've always had a love for dogfights. That means I have one-sided opinions about this, so I want to see what everyone thinks about boarding.

I've seen suggestions here that say "allow the ships to be boarded!" Well, here's why it would be a bad idea.

Now, I don't like boarding in space maps, except for the maps where there's an objective that you need to reach on foot, though I'd still prefer space only ones. Imagine if there would be an enterable and captureable Nebulon-B. Basically, the imps would be able to capture it by boarding. This is bad for the Star Wars correctness. First of all, Fighters are expensive. In real life, a jet costs millions. Now, would you abandon your super expensive fighter to get in an enemy capship and get your arse blown to pieces? No. Bad idea. 2: In star wars, cap ships are destroyed from the outside, they are never boarded except for the tractor beam capturing done with star destroyers.

There's a HL2 Sci-Fi mod called Eternal Silence 2. It has drifty space and infantry combat. I don't like that mod much due to rushing boarders. Basically, the space combat's fun, but to make sure you don't lose, you keep on getting forced to disembark and do some super-dull CS clone infantry fighting. So it messes all the fun up for the pilots, mainly cause rushers are hard to stop there.

If you want infantry, PLAY INFANTRY MAPS. There's surely gonna be a remake of that inside a star destroyer map from GC, and that's better than jumping into a ship and wasting your craft.

So, what's your opinion? Should there be boarding in FS?

would be a kool idea but mabey just for the pilots of course and mabey they can have their own weapons as well but of course theyd have to be weaker than their crafts

Re: Boarding capships. Yes or No?

I dont want other pilots to be able to board, and I also don't want the other teams marines to have access to my hanger bays. Thats one thing I like about the titans in BF2142.

And I don't like the idea of capitol ships being able to be destroyed from the inside. I like the idea of maybe, disabling certain things from the inside like some sort of shield, tractor beam, those wierd things that prevent hyper drives from working, stuff like that im ok with, but I don't want anyone from the other team in my hanger.

Plain and simple I don't want a stormtrooper coming into my hanger and stealing MY X-wing, Or vice versa.

I think all ships should have 2 place openings, one for boarding, one for  fighters/transports to take off from.

Re: Boarding capships. Yes or No?

What I'm guessing/hoping is that you wont be able to really land a fighter on the enemies cap ship, but that there will be transports that you would use to take marines over, and I know in the BF2 mod Project Reality they made it so you cant enter enemies vehicles, so I'd assume that they could do the same here for the vehicle theft idea, unless you have maybe a special kit (aside from pilot) And then allow you to take strategic points in the ship to either reduce its effectiveness or completly disable parts
Example- Imperial Marines take the hanger on a rebel ship, making it so a counter offensive is needed to access fighters again thus crippling the fighter force for the rebels until the Imperials are pushed out or move to another area leaving the hanger unguarded.

Example B- Rebel troopers fight their way to the bridge of an ISD and destroy all the equipment, crippling computer controlled weaponry and engines etc controlled from the bridge.

Re: Boarding capships. Yes or No?

Perhaps on one space map the main objective would be to take down the ships shielding to allow for boarding. Then it would load a new map, depending on who won, of  infantry combat in either a rebel ship or an imperial ship.

Other than this type of scenario I am against boarding. I'd much rather concentrate on shooting down bombers.

Re: Boarding capships. Yes or No?

So the initial post isn't so much a "yes or no" but rather a "no no nooooooo" tongue

((note, I'll give my opinion and our plan for boardable ships once we've finalized testing on our options.  We're actually going through the different things we could do using my mockup ship, the "FS Lollipop", to see what the engine will even support.  It may take a while to figure things out; one way or another anyway))
